A privately held medical device manufacturing company based in San Diego County is undergoing rapid growth in preparation for a planned IPO. With operations in both the U.S. and internationally, the company is expanding its leadership team to support increased financial rigor, scalability, and compliance. The environment is fast-paced, collaborative, and mission-driven, with an emphasis on innovation, precision, and global coordination.

Position Overview:
The company is seeking a technically strong, hands-on Director of Accounting to lead core financial operations and support IPO readiness. This position reports directly to the Founder & CEO (with future transition to a CFO) and will oversee a small but growing accounting team spanning domestic and international offices.

This is a full-time, onsite role based in Carlsbad, CA. The ideal candidate brings a mix of public company accounting experience, strong leadership capabilities, and comfort working in a fast-evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, close processes, financial reporting, and compliance

  • Oversee internal controls, SOX readiness, and audit preparation activities

  • Ensure timely, accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

  • Drive IPO readiness including support for SEC filings and coordination with external auditors

  • Supervise cost accounting, AR/AP, and international financial operations

  • Partner with leadership on forecasting, budgeting, and business planning

  • Implement scalable financial systems, policies, and procedures

  • Manage and develop a growing team across both U.S. and international locations

  • Support tax filings, local and federal reporting, and regulatory compliance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required

  • 8+ years of accounting and financial management experience, including in a public company

  • Prior leadership experience in medical device manufacturing or another regulated industry

  • Background in Big Four or Top 6 public accounting strongly preferred

  • Experience with IPO filings, SOX compliance, and audit coordination

  • International accounting/finance experience and cultural fluency strongly preferred

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

  • Adaptable, hands-on approach and comfort in a growing, high-performance setting
