About This Opportunity

We're looking for a unique individual to join us at an exciting inflection point. Over the past 18 months, we've compressed three years of infrastructure modernization into one incredible transformation. Our new phone system, firewall, WiFi infrastructure, and fully automated server environment represent a complete technology overhaul. Now we need someone to maintain this modernized foundation while spending most of their time driving our digital transformation forward through data projects and reporting.

This isn't your typical IT support role. You'll spend 90 minutes to two hours each day keeping our infrastructure humming, then shift gears to work on Python-based data projects, build dynamic reports using v0.app, and support our business intelligence initiatives. If you've ever felt torn between wanting hands-on technical work and creative problem-solving with data, this role offers both.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your mornings might involve troubleshooting a VPN connection or managing Office 365 security settings. You'll prepare a weekly security review of our IT environment, identifying areas you can address directly and flagging items that need our fractional CIO or outside security partners. By afternoon, you'll be web scraping product data with Python, building interactive dashboards with React components, or collaborating with our BI team in Phocas to surface insights that drive real business decisions. You'll have the backing of our former Sr. Sys Admin (now serving as fractional CIO) for guidance on complex issues, but you'll own the day-to-day technology experience for our users.

The Technical Environment You'll Support

Our infrastructure is modern and mostly automated. You'll work with Cisco Meraki (MX routers, Catalyst switches, MS130 switches, MR57 WiFi), 2 physical servers running VMware vSphere hosting 15 virtual machines, Office 365 with its full security suite, Active Directory, IBM server management, and security tools like Avanan and SentinelOne. The infrastructure is modern and reliable - you'll ensure it stays that way while keeping an eye out for ways to streamline and enhance our systems as our data initiatives evolve.

What Makes You a Great Fit

You don't need to be an expert in everything, but you should be comfortable with the basics of enterprise IT infrastructure and genuinely excited about data work. Maybe you've been the "tech person" who also built the reports everyone relies on. Maybe you're early in your career but you learn fast and aren't afraid to dive into documentation or ask Claude and ChatGPT when you hit a wall.

We're looking for someone who:

• Can run Python scripts and create new ones with AI assistance

• Understands data fundamentals and sees the story numbers tell

• Has a security-conscious mindset and can monitor IT security posture

• Can assess which issues to handle directly versus escalate to specialists

• Brings a positive, solution-oriented mindset to every challenge

• Views AI tools like Anthropic Claude and ChatGPT as collaborative partners, not shortcuts

• Thrives on variety - you'll get bored doing the same thing all day

• Learns quickly and figures things out rather than waiting for perfect instructions

Bonus Skills That Would Set You Apart

• Python fundamentals (especially web scraping)

• React.js experience (v0.app generates React components)

• Database experience (we use Supabase/PostgreSQL for rapid backend development)

• Data manipulation and analysis capabilities

• Any experience building internal tools or dashboards

• Basic IT security knowledge or certifications

Location & Work Style

This is an in-office position based in Salt Lake City, where you'll work daily alongside our core team. You'll serve as the technology bridge between our SLC headquarters and our branch locations in Denver (CO), Boise (ID), and Butte (MT), as well as supporting our remote team members. We're an 87-year-old B2B flooring distributor that's moving at startup speed when it comes to technology and digital transformation.
