Location: This role will be conducted full-time at the customer site in McLean, VA

Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Transportation Engineer with simulation and traffic operations experience to join our McLean, Virginia division. The ideal candidate will work on various projects focused on developing and optimizing advanced technologies (such as intelligent transportation systems, CDA, C-V2X, CAV, and AI-driven predictive modeling) to enhance multimodal transportation system safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, calibrate, and validate microscopic and mesoscopic traffic simulation models.
  • Utilize simulation tools to evaluate the safety, efficiency, and environmental impacts of advanced transportation strategies, including CAV and V2X applications.
  • Research signal operations and traffic control strategies, and assist in traffic management applications.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external teams to address technical goals and challenges.
  • Contribute to Concept of Operations, system requirements, and technical guidance documents for transportation projects.
  • Analyze simulation data and large datasets to interpret transportation system performance.
  • Document findings in technical reports, presentations, and manuals for both technical and practitioner audiences.
  • Generate synthetic data using Generative AI methods based on available historical data.
  • Provide technical support to stakeholders in academia, government, and industry regarding ITS, CDA, and V2X technologies.
  • Assist in proposal development, white papers, and technical briefings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Transportation Engineering or a related field with 2+ years of experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience with traffic simulation software such as VISSIM or TransModeler.
  • Experience in traffic signal operations and control strategies, including adaptive control and transit priority.
  • Demonstrated skills in calibrating and validating simulation models.
  • At least 1 year of experience collaborating with state and local Departments of Transportation.
  • Strong analytical skills with a competency in interpreting and presenting traffic data.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience in AI/ML model development using frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, Java, VBA, or Matlab).
  • Experience writing technical reports or research papers.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Preferred Experience:

  • PhD in Transportation Engineering or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of CAV, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and traffic operation management.
  • Experience with AI model development applied to transportation systems.
  • Familiarity with co-simulation tools and multimodal modeling.
  • Solid knowledge of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication protocols.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from inception to completion.
  • Experience with technical proposal development.
  • Agile methodology experience in development environments.

Anticipated salary for this role: $80,000 - $110,000
