Inspector of external Gas Contractor crews performing all aspects of related gas work. Manage the local construction process to ensure the following: Safe and reliable installation of the transmission and distribution systems consistent with Company goals, objectives and policies, in full compliance with governmental codes and regulations. Field Operations Inspectors review and record the work conducted by external contractor crews completing construction projects for National Grid. An inspector typically inspects job site to determine field conditions, oversee contractor construction crews to ensure work meets Company standards, handle correspondence, perform documentation and resolve complaints regarding the above, and perform compliance assessments to maintain a daily record of completed field work. Additionally, an Inspector refers to records, plans, and field inspections in order to determine points of interference between public property, Company facilities, and other utilities, and recommends any changes in coordination with the Project Engineer.
Key Accountabilities- Oversee National Grid contractor forces performing gas main and service installations for new supply, maintenance (leaks, corrosion, etc.), third party/CSC construction, etc.
- Serve as National Grid's field representative during contractor performed Mains & services construction activities.
- Ensures main and service construction is in compliance with Engineer's design as well as all applicable codes, rules, regulations, standards, and specifications.
- Participate in meetings and field walkdowns as necessary.
- Ensure contractors are in compliance with all National Grid Safety Standards
- Layout live gas connections in preparation for tie-ins (internal construction or external contractor forces)
- Pre-inspect proposed construction sites to determine accessibility, as well as responds to and recommends changes to construction, depending on field conditions and in consultation with the Engineer
- Handles customer inquiries regarding all aspects of construction work
- Ensure accurate reporting of work including SOP's, work order historicals, daily completion reporting, sketches, Operations Qualification, etc.
- Inspect trench sheeting, shoring and excavation to ensure safe working conditions and incompliance with company standards.
- Review and validate project documentation including daily reports, test records (e.e. pressure tests, etc.) as-builts, Operator Qualifications, permits, etc.
- Support coordination with internal departments.
- Conduct joint field meetings with contractors and related company departments. Recommends changes to construction depending on field conditions and in consultation with supervisor/Engineer.
- Assist in facilitating the coordination of informing other entities or any AOCs of work being performed (I&R, GFO, Corrosion, BPI, CMS) if the need arises.
- Associates degree in a technical discipline required (e.g., Engineering, Construction Management) or five (5) years of related experience.
- Applicant must exhibit proven skills and ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. The candidate must possess a strong oral and written communication skills with the proven ability to maximize performance of contractors.
- Solid planning and organizing skills are required. Must possess the following competencies: Focus on Safety, Customer Satisfaction, advancing technology to protect our environment, innovation, drive for results and adaptability.
- Must successfully complete training associated with the job requirement such as verification of contractor work force Operator Qualifications, daily documentation of work electronically, Compliance Assessments etc.
- Must successfully complete the required Operator Qualifications training & testing.
- Computer skill set necessary for all Inspector Job Titles
- Must possess valid NYS Driver's License
Pay Rate: $44.22 per hour

As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
