The Dogwood Energy Facility, located near Pleasant Hill in Cass County, Missouri, strategically operates within the northern SPP reliability council region. This 625 MW natural gas combined-cycle plant employs a 2x1 configuration with two Siemens Westinghouse 501F D2 Gas Turbines, two Toshiba Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), and one Toshiba Steam Turbine Generator.

Opportunity Summary

The Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems, and electrical equipment in the power plant and associated facilities. The IC&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation, and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems.

Additionally, the IC&E Technician supports the Dogwood Energy NERC Compliance Program by completing required annual NERC standard training. The role also includes assisting in the management of hazardous waste at the site, which involves completing hazardous waste awareness training and performing and documenting inspections of waste.

Your scope of responsibility as IC&E Technician will include the following primary functions:

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance on all major equipment, systems, and emergency backup systems.
  • Inspect, repair, and install various electrical components, including motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signals, communication systems, protective relaying devices, and storage batteries. Work with electrical systems ranging from 12VAC to 4160VAC, as well as DC systems up to 125VDC.
  • Troubleshoot, recommission, and calibrate control valves, temperature, pressure, flow, and level transmitters.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with DCS, PLC, and other turbine control-related equipment.
  • Perform electrical system isolations in accordance with industry standards and assist in training others in electrical safety programs.
  • Respond to emergencies at any time of day or night, as directed.
  • Perform work of other classifications, as necessary.
  • Support the Dogwood Energy NERC Compliance Program, including the annual completion of required NERC standards training.
  • Assist in hazardous waste management, including completing hazardous waste awareness training and conducting documented inspections of waste accumulation areas.
  • Maintain accurate equipment files, logs, and drawings for designated equipment.
  • Forecast, inventory, and reorder spare parts to ensure plant reliability, as well as assist in physical inventories.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager.

Working Relationships

The IC&E Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and receives general direction from plant management. This role also involves working with the utility on matters related to daily plant operations. Additionally, the IC&E Technician coordinates with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure proper support and collaboration.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The IC&E Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. This position may occasionally require availability for call-ins.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $43 to $54 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.

Core Qualifications and Skills

We are seeking a qualified Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician with hands-on experience in power generation operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and a track record of contributing effectively within a team environment to support reliable plant performance.
  • An Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is preferred. Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program with two years of relevant industry or military experience.
  • Four years of experience as a technician in instrumentation, controls, and electrical work, with increasing responsibility in a related industry, may be substituted for the above requirement.
  • Proficiency in inspecting, repairing, and installing electrical components, including motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, and protective relaying devices, with experience working on systems ranging from 12VAC to 4,160VAC and DC systems up to 125VDC.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving issues with DCS, PLC, and other turbine control-related equipment.
  • Knowledge of NERC compliance requirements, with the ability to complete required annual NERC standards training.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a self-directed approach and creative problem-solving skills for unique I&E challenges, is desirable.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, with the ability to interpret and work from schematics.
  • Strong personal computer skills, along with excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
