General Ledger Accounting Manager

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced GL Accounting Manager to join our corporate finance team at a publicly traded manufacturing company. This role is responsible for overseeing general ledger accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
American Vanguard is a diversified agricultural and specialty products company focusing on crop protection, turf and ornamental markets, and public health applications. The Company markets its product lines in the USA and internationally in 24 countries, including Brazil, Latin America, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several other countries in Asia. American Vanguard is headquartered in Newport Beach, California (across from Orange County Airport @ 405/55). This is a hybrid position (3 days a week on-site).
Responsibilities
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals for two small (US) subsidiaries
- Responsible for managing accounting for fixed assets and intercompany transactions
- Support quarterly, annual and interim external and internal audits including preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor requests
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure that accounting information is accurate and timely
- Ad hoc projects as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- CPA certification (preferred)
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a public company environment is preferred
- Must have an understanding of internal controls and auditing processes
- Proficiency in ERP systems skills (Manufacturing)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and financial statement preparation
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to analyze and resolve complex accounting issues
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; ability to work with large data sets and pivot tables
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally
