Engineering Technician

Pay rate: $30 Hourly on W2 (without any benefits)
Job Description:
The Optics department is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to join our Precision Optics Department. The successful candidate will have experience with industry manufacturing standards, strong manual dexterity, and a sharp eye for detail. The candidate will play a crucial role in the fabrication and quality assurance of precision optical components and assemblies.
Essential Functions:
- Perform detailed manufacturing of precision optical components and assemblies to verify conformance to specifications and drawings.
- Conduct surface quality assessments using industry standards (e.g., MIL-PRF-13830B).
- Measure critical dimensions using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Interpret drawings, specifications, and work instructions to validate manufacturing criteria.
- Document manufacturing results clearly and accurately.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to communicate quality issues and support root cause investigations.
- Assist in the development and improvement of manufacturing procedures and protocols.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Maintain manufacturing equipment and ensure calibration status is current.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in optics, precision engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in optical inspection or a related field.
- Proficiency in using optical and mechanical measurement tools and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform precise and accurate inspections.
- Good understanding of optical principles and quality control processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and ability to document and report findings clearly.
- Security Clearance required upon hire: Clearance Not Required
- Security Clearance required for role: Ability to Obtain
- Experience with ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
- Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and other quality improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of optical coatings, lens fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Role may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
- Work performed in a clean, climate-controlled inspection area.
