As we embrace technologies like Drones for first responders, we are forming a talented engineering team focused on the development of autonomous systems. In this dynamic role, you will be a crucial contributor to a small team working at the crossroads of robotics, embedded software, and autonomy. You will engage with our complete software stack for drones, encompassing video processing, multi-agent control, autopilot, and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems.

This role is not confined to a single specialization. Instead, we seek someone systems-minded and adept at navigating multiple layers of software, driven by the challenge of developing real-time, safety-critical systems that make a tangible difference. You will also contribute to refining our infrastructure and deployment pipeline for autonomous vehicles in real-world situations.

This position promises significant impact for an engineer who excels in a fast-paced environment, values collaboration, and proactively addresses challenges in ambiguous situations. You will collaborate with a talented, low-ego team to help shape our software, architecture, tools, and culture as we scale.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in C++ and/or Rust for high-performance, low-level systems
  • Experience working with near-real-time systems on embedded Linux
  • Strong understanding of real-time systems, robotics middleware, or autonomy stacks
  • Familiarity with GNC and path planning algorithms
  • Experience in developing or integrating autopilot software (e.g., PX4, ArduPilot)
  • Comfort working near hardware with sensors, actuators, and low-level input/output protocols
  • A systems thinking approach to evaluate architecture layers and make effective trade-offs
  • Ownership mentality, with a proactive attitude and comfort in ambiguous situations
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with a low-ego communication style

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to multi-agent systems or distributed control architectures
  • Experience with onboard video processing in resource-constrained environments
  • Familiarity with deployment tools for autonomous systems (e.g., OTA updates, telemetry)
  • Knowledge of simulation environments for robotics (e.g., Gazebo, AirSim)
  • Experience in safety-critical or regulated environments

If you're hesitant because you don't meet every requirement, apply anyway We encourage you to consider roles that inspire you.

Your First 90 Days at Flock:

  • First 30 Days: Gain insight into Flock's devices, cloud systems, and customer needs; familiarize yourself with software architecture and connect with cross-functional teams.
  • First 60 Days: Take on increased responsibility by defining software requirements and completing additional tickets from code to release.
  • Days 90 and Beyond: Partner with your manager to identify a specific architectural area to own and develop the necessary software requirements.

Salary & Equity: Expect a starting salary between $170,000 and $200,000, with options for Flock Safety Stock. Your recruiter will provide details during the first chat.
