JOB SUMMARY The Director of Accounting position is responsible for the execution of financial statements and reports, and the supervision of the general accounting functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Guides accounting department clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering accounting procedure questions.
  • Trains staff employees in accounting, payroll, and accounts receivable/payable.
  • Summarizes current financial status by collecting information, and preparing balance sheet, profit & loss statement, and other financial reports.
  • Collects and analyzes account information by reconciling financial discrepancies.
  • Maintains financial security by establishing internal controls verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
  • Protects operations by assuring that financial data is kept confidential.
  • Maintenance of complete filing system for all related accounting records and reports.
  • Perform monthly analysis and reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
  • Make recommendations to develop, improve and update the cooperative's financial system and procedures, as necessary.
  • Detail preparation for annual audit.
  • Attend department/cooperative-wide meetings, as required. *Perform other related duties as required for the smooth running of the department.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles in both manual and automated systems.
  • Qualifying experience must include at least five (5) years of experience in accounting.
  • Working knowledge and experience with PC based and automated accounting systems and electronic spreadsheets, required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
  • Accounting, finance, and billing staff members. COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to produce month-end financial reports.
  • Ability to type 45 words per minute and operate various office equipment to include copy machine, calculator, fax machine, and multi-line phone.
  • Must display professional attitude and maintain professional appearance.
  • Must possess above average verbal and writing skills.
  • Must be able to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to give clear, concise instructions.
  • Must be able to deal with individuals of varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Able to work as part of a team and foster the team concept.
  • Must be dependable.
  • Ability to prioritize, flexibility in work assignments.
  • Must have a positive outlook and attitude.
