We are looking for a Business Advisor who will work with small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs during business startup, growth, and exit stages.
You have a passion for supporting business and community economic development in true partnership with those seeking opportunity by providing business planning, management development, and assistance with preparing for and obtaining financing.
You can communicate effectively with a wide variety of entrepreneurs and resource partners, and you are curious and seeking to learn.
You bring a strong general management knowledge and are motivated to continue your education and professional development to have capacity and resources to advise clients.
You bring diverse perspectives and approaches to the team, enjoy the opportunity to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds, sectors, and identities, and foster strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
You have strong time management, critical thinking, and organizational skills; and are results driven.
In this role:
You will maintain deep technical expertise and provide a general suite of business advising with skills and compassion.
You will support clients aligned with CEI's strategic plan in navigating entrepreneurial ecosystem and in accessing other resources in our network.
You will work with our program teams to develop workshops or events for small businesses.
You will be an active participant in your community, developing strong relationships, and furthering the mission of CEI.
You will seek out and participate in sector-related professional learning to develop well-rounded knowledge and expertise. Priority sectors for this role include either childcare or food businesses.
You will work in a dynamic environment focused on tangible support for Maine's businesses and people who have been marginalized in our economy.
You will work with clients throughout the state via remote technology and tools.
Preferred candidates will have:
A bachelor's degree in business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and at least three to five years of relevant professional experience, such as community or business development.
Previous business ownership / entrepreneurial experience is a plus.
Knowledge of all aspects of business management, planning, and business financing.
The ability to communicate and connect with a diverse variety of clientele.
Curiosity and passion for small business growth and development in a wide variety of sectors.
Experience in community-based organizations is a plus.
Comfort using and interfacing with web-based communication platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and others, as remote work will be part of the role.
Other details:
This is a full-time 40-hour-per-week position with excellent benefits and generous time off. The salary range offered for this position is from $85,600 to $88,000 a year. We work in a hybrid model, two days in the office, and three days at home. This position will serve central and/or Northern Maine, and we have flexibility on where you are based: Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset, Oxford, Hancock and Franklin counties, and traveling to our Brunswick office when needed, at least once per month.
