Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Manage the General accounting team, which is the primary team responsible for the month-end financial close process, including majority of journal entries, accruals/estimates and account reconciliations
  • Primary owner of master data in PeopleSoft (e.g. partner with Financial Reporting Manager to sync with consolidation (FCCS) and planning (ePBCS) tools)
  • Review/approve higher-risk journal entries.
  • Serves as primary contact with external auditors.
  • Key contributor to identify and realize financial close efficiencies to drive the organization to a faster and more streamlined, accurate financial close process.
  • Handle other responsibilities, as needed, such as project/system implementation support.
Requirements:
  • BS in Accounting.
  • CPA (Preferred, but not required).
  • Minimum of 5 years in accounting (or similar) experience with increasing responsibilities directly involved in the financial close process; additional/more senior experience preferred and valued for this role.
  • Large, public company experience preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A leader who promotes teamwork.
  • Must be able to delegate.
  • Ability to develop a vision of "what could be", not just focused on "what is/has been"
  • Demonstrated ability to execute/drive a project plan to completion,; including influencing others and effectively managing their team and others through change.
  • In-depth experience using modern ERP's such as SAP or Oracle, consolidation tools (e.g. FCCS) and financial planning tools (e.g. ePBCS) is preferred
  • Good social skills in dealing with internal personnel, auditors, etc.

Physical Requirements:

As a full-service utility contractor, Asplundh performs tree pruning and removals, right-of-way clearing and maintenance, vegetation management with herbicides, and emergency storm work and logistical support. Asplundh is the parent company of Asplundh Infrastructure Group whose subsidiaries provide overhead and underground line construction, planning and design, meter reading and AMR/AMI installation, electrical testing, and street lighting/traffic signal services. Asplundh also operates Rotor Blade Airborne Utilities Management, overhead electric distribution, and transmission lines using MD 500 helicopters.
