Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Technical Accounting team, which is primarily responsible for performing all technical accounting research of the finance department in accordance with US GAAP, including ASC topics covering leases, equity/share-based compensation, derivatives, business combinations, complex revenue recognition, etc.
  • Develop and formally document technical accounting positions and conclusions derived from the above research.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging accounting pronouncements/updates for relevance/applicability to Asplundh's family of companies.
  • Manage and support local IFRS (foreign operations) vs. US-GAAP consolidated financial results
  • Execute and maintain monthly operating/finance lease accounting activities (lease accounting tool (Visual Lease) admin)
  • Provide technical support to the Business Development team, including due diligence support (e.g. review key contracts, accounting policies, etc.)
  • Support General Accounting team regarding complex accounting issues/fact-pattern analysis
  • Handle other responsibilities, as needed, such as project/system implementation support.
Requirements:
  • BS in Accounting.
  • CPA (Preferred, but not required).
  • Minimum of 5 years in accounting (or similar) experience with increasing responsibilities directly involved in technical accounting matters; extensive experience in the technical accounting topics noted above is preferred
  • Large, public company/SEC reporting experience preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate/translate complex, technical matters effectively to a non-technical audience.
  • A leader who promotes teamwork.
  • Must be able to delegate.
  • Ability to develop a vision of "what could be", not just focused on "what is/has been"
  • Demonstrated ability to execute/drive a project plan to completion,; including influencing others and effectively managing their team and others through change.
  • In-depth experience using modern ERP's such as SAP or Oracle is preferred
  • Good social skills in dealing with internal personnel, auditors, stakeholders, etc.
