The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate inequities resulting in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis, CHECW works to increase visibility of socially unjust policy while pushing towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community, faith-based, and health care organizations. CHECW's work focuses on social determinants of health, including environmental and commercial determinants, and addresses both upstream and downstream factors to improve health and well-being of New Yorkers. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, the Bureau of Health Equity Capacity Building, the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance, Administration and Services. The division's Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agency's Chief Equity Officer and oversees Race to Justice, the Agency's internal reform effort to help our staff learn what they can do to better address racial health gaps and improve health outcomes for all New Yorkers. The division's Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agency's Chief Medical Officer. Moreover, the Inaugural NYC Anti-Racism in Medical Education Symposium was a pathway to use our unique position in our city to connect stakeholders and further the work of the NYC Coalition to End Racism in Clinical Algorithms and building a more equitable NYC. The office of the Chief Medical Officer, seeks to hire an Asthma Coordinator who will work collaboratively across agency divisions involved in Asthma work, namely program directors, researchers and stakeholders across DOHMH particularly in CHECW, Division of Family and Child Health and Environmental Services to ensure coordination of activities related to asthma work across the agency in order to improve the burden of asthma in priority neighborhoods in New York City for adults and children.DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO: -Analyze and report out common asthma indicators, consolidating and collating data from several sources, including NYS Hospital Discharge Data (SPARCS), Medicaid data, and DOHMH survey data.-Work closely with manager of Asthma Strategy and appropriate Bureaus to develop an asthma indicator database and reporting tools.-Under the direction of the Manager of Asthma Strategy assist with responding to all internal, external and press inquiries on asthma surveillance data for Agency.-With input from DOHMH asthma stakeholders, draft and manage agency public facing asthma communications and content, including for DOHMH's asthma webpage and for social media platforms (e.g., messaging around Asthma Awareness Month, spring pollen season, etc.).-Collaborate on development of data-driven public awareness campaigns.-Maintain program inventory of each division's asthma activities and resources.-In collaboration with Manager of Asthma Strategy, work with various DOHMH Bureaus to track and support work in 3 main areas: increasing controller medication utilization and adherence among school aged children, standardizing and expanding integrated pest management and incorporating community-based asthma initiatives.-In collaboration with the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, support the New York City Asthma Network (NYCAN) by coordinating and facilitating coalition meetings, communicating effectively with members to promote collaboration, and developing and implementing strategies to increase coalition membership and engagement.-Stay informed about other public health department asthma work/policies and disseminate notable findings to DOHMH asthma stakeholders. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
