ABOUT This is a part-time position, up to 18 hours per week, that is responsible for assisting instructors and students in HVAC/R labs. This position will include mentoring and coaching students in support of the curriculum presented and practiced in the classroom and lab. WHAT YOU WILL DO Primary ResponsibilitiesMaintain tool rooms, materials storage, demonstration equipment, and training models in good working order. This includes using hand tools, minor troubleshooting and repair of equipment, and cleaning and organizing storage racks, shelves, and cabinets.Assist in the daily operations and support of the HVAC/R Program, including preparing and maintaining lab spaces and equipment.Preparation of materials and machinery for lab exercises.Maintain inventory of consumable materials and submit requests for supplies.Assist faculty in the classrooms and labs as needed to monitor students for safety and assist students in conducting lab exercises. Maintain a clean and safe work area.Inspect equipment and notify the Program Coordinator of problems.Perform basic maintenance on laboratory equipment.Hold regular and ad-hoc tutorials for students that reinforce best practices and techniques involved in the methodologies for recovery, evacuation, purging, torquing to spec, systematic troubleshooting, leak detection, and others as neededCommunicate effectively in a professional, tactful, and courteous manner with students, employees, faculty, and the general public.Carry out any other tasks as directed by the department to ensure the smooth operation of the program.COMPETENCIESKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesFundamental knowledge and skills in tool applications and safe useBasic brazing, soldering, and pipe fitting skillsSolid foundation in vapor compression cycle, Ohm’s Law, low and line voltage controlsStrong understanding of best practices and specific hands-on skills applied in the field with a variety of tools and equipment deployed at TJCSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNo direct supervisionWork Environment: Regular work required outside of normal business hoursPhysical Demands: This position includes light lifting and the ability to stand, sit, walk, reach, stoop, bend, push, pull, kneel, climb, use hands and fingers, and talk/hear for extended periods.
