The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) funds programs toreduce the effects of poverty. DYCD works to improve the quality of life of New Yorkers bycollaborating with community based organizations. DYCD invests in the talents and assets of ourcommunities to help them develop, grow and thrive. DYCD disseminates information on program andopportunities through its websites. DYCD also provides resources to community based organizationsand vendors through its websites. DYCD seeks a college aide to support the agency's efforts to ensurewebsites and web content are accessible. This is a great opportunity to gain hands on experiencewhile obtaining a college degree. Digital accessibility is the practice of making content, systems, andwebsites usable by everyone, regardless of ability. The College Aide will work closely with the ouraccessibility and communications teams to identify, assess, and resolve accessibility issues within ourwebsites and web content. Responsibilities include: - Review applications and websites for compliance with accessibility standards. - Collaborate with the team to provide recommendations for improving accessibility. - Review public facing content (in MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, etc.) for compliance with accessibility standards. - Execute recommendations to improve accessibility. - Participate in training workshops and learning opportunities.COLLEGE AIDE - ASSIGNMENT LEVE - BMinimum QualificationsFor Assignment Level I:Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.SPECIAL NOTEMaximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.Preferred Skills- Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements (WCAG) is a plus - Familiarity with disabilities or a willingness to learn - A technical, logical thought process - Ability to work independently and with diverse populations - College major: Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development and Design, User Center/Experience Design. - Experience with Microsoft Applications and Programming.Public Service Loan ForgivenessAs a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
