Additional responsibilities include providing consultation to medical, allied health and educational personnel and education/instruction to patients, families, and other healthcare providers as appropriate.What you will doPatient Care1. Evaluation:Independently assesses hearing and/or vestibular function through the use of diagnostic tests and other appropriate procedures, in compliance with guidelines set by the department and regulating agencies, with support provided by more senior staff as needed.2. Documentation and Communication:Independently interprets test findings with prompt dissemination of results using professional oral and written communication.Aids physicians and other providers in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral and central auditory disorders.Counsels patients and families, as well as other professionals regarding hearing loss and options for (re)habilitation including, but not limited to hearing technology, communication options and educational services through the use of outcomes measures and referrals to appropriate service providers, with support provided by more senior staff, as needed.3. Intervention:Independently develops recommendations for management of hearing loss in accordance with departmental protocols, with support provided by more senior staff as needed.Selects, modifies, and dispenses amplification systems, cochlear implants and other assistive devices when appropriate.Develops informational materials for families and professionals when appropriate.AdministrationParticipates in operational tasks as requested.Participates in department quality improvement projects.Troubleshoots and maintains clinical equipment as needed.Participates in development of long- and short-term department goals.Assists with patient coverage plans.Education/Training and ResearchMaintains/updates professional knowledge and skills by identifying own learning needs and by completing a minimum of 10 clock hours of continuing education during each fiscal and/or rating year.Provides clinical observation opportunities as appropriate.Applies research to practice.Licenses and CertificationsAudiology License (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required andAudiology License (New Jersey) -New Jersey State Licensing Board- within 3 months - Required andBoard Certification in Audiology - American Board of Audiology - within 3 months - Required orCertificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) - American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) - within 3 months - RequiredBasic Life Support (BLS) - Issued through an organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 3 months - PreferredEducationMaster's Degree Audiology RequiredDoctorate Audiology PreferredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesHigh level of analytical skill in order to work independently to identify and plan for the resolution of problems encountered in clinical and research duties. (Required proficiency)High level of skill in various audiological assessment procedures pertaining to the pediatric population. (Required proficiency)Fundamental research knowledge, including a general understanding of research methodology, design, and statistics. (Required proficiency)Interpersonal relationship skills to support effective communication with patients and families, as well as other medical professionals.
