Audiologist

The Audiologist provides diagnostic and rehabilitative audiological services for adult and pediatric patients, by administering auditory and vestibular evaluations, tests, and examinations of patients to determine diagnoses and recommend courses of treatment.
The Audiologist also counsel and instruct patients in techniques to improve hearing, including the fitting and dispensing of assistive devices and hearing instruments.
This position also records all of a client's data and then coordinates with the client and their other health care professionals to determine the best possible treatment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Master's degree in Audiology required. Doctor of Audiology (Au.D preferred.)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed provider in the State of New Jersey required.
EXPERIENCE: Outpatient office testing inclusive of assisted hearing devices preferred.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens along with infectious diseases. (Refers to Blood Bourne Pathogen requirement)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
This position reports to Department Leadership and may supervise incumbents' as assigned.

Technical Competencies include:
* Administer hearing or speech/ language evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment, using specialized instruments and electronic equipment.
* Counsel and instruct clients in techniques to improve hearing or speech impairment, including sign language or lip reading.
* Evaluate hearing and speech/ language disorders to determine diagnoses and courses of treatment.
* Examine and clean patients' ear canals.
* Fit and dispense assistive devices, such as hearing aids.
* Main client records at all stages, including initial evaluation and discharge
* Monitor clients' progress and discharge them from treatment when their goals have been attained.
* Plan and conduct treatment programs for clients hearing or speech problems, consulting with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other health care personnel as necessary.
* Recommend assistive devices according to clients' needs or nature of impairments.
* Refer clients to additional medical or educational services as required.
* Advise educators or other medical staff/ public on speech and/ or hearing topics.
* Develop and supervise hearing screening programs.
* Educate and supervise audiology students and health care personnel.
* Fit and tune cochlear implants, providing rehabilitation for adjustments in listening with implant amplification systems.
* Instruct clients, parents, teachers, or employers in how to avoid behavior patterns that led to miscommunication.
* Participate in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods or technologies.
* Measure noise levels in workplaces and conduct hearing protection programs in industry, schools and communities.
* Work with multidisciplinary teams to assess and rehabilitate recipients of implanted hearing devices.
