The Executive Director (ED) provides year-round leadership and oversight for all aspects of a youth residential camp with a summer program focus. This position requires full-time, on-site residence to ensure safety, operational continuity, property management, and community engagement. The ED is responsible for strategic leadership, staff supervision, financial oversight, facilities operations, program development, and maintaining a mission-centered camp culture. RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CAMP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Strategic & Organizational Leadership Lead mission-driven planning and goal setting in collaboration with the Board.Develop and execute long-term strategic plans, program growth, and capital improvements.Represent the camp in community partnerships, donor relations, and public events.Provide regular organizational updates and annual reports to the Board. 2. Program Oversight & Youth Experience Oversee all summer and off-season youth programs to ensure quality, safety, and mission alignment.Supervise seasonal leadership teams and ensure delivery of high-quality camp experiences.Evaluate program outcomes and implement improvements based on feedback and data.Ensure all programming meets ACA standards and state compliance requirements. 3. Facilities & Property Management (Year-Round, On-Site) Serve as the primary on-site presence to ensure safety, security, and condition of the camp property.Oversee maintenance and facilities staff in planning and executing repairs, upgrades, and preventive care.Conduct regular inspections of buildings, grounds, and critical infrastructure (water, septic, electrical, trails, etc.).Coordinate with contractors and vendors for major maintenance or capital projects.Manage emergency response protocols (fire, weather, medical) and maintain readiness. 4. Staff Leadership & Human Resources Recruit, hire, train, and supervise year-round and seasonal staff.Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and leadership development.Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and mission-centered workplace culture.Maintain personnel records and ensure compliance with labor laws. 5. Financial Management & Administration Develop and manage annual budget in partnership with the Board.Oversee revenue streams, including summer program fees, retreat rentals, grants, and donations.Approve expenditures, monitor cash flow, and maintain financial accountability.Ensure accurate bookkeeping, compliance, and audit preparation. 6. Safety, Risk Management & Compliance Maintain and regularly update all safety protocols, handbooks, and emergency procedures.Ensure compliance with Arizona state regulations, health codes, and youth protection standards.Lead annual safety trainings and emergency response drills.Serve as the primary on-site responder for after-hours emergencies. 7. Community, Donor, & Stakeholder Engagement Build and maintain relationships with donors, community partners, and local organizations.Support fundraising efforts, grant writing, and donor stewardship.Represent the camp at events, conferences, and public-facing activities. 8. Year-Round Property Presence & Lifestyle Expectations Maintain year-round residence on camp property as part of the role.Serve as point of contact for off-season emergencies or security issues.Model positive camp values and act as an ambassador for families, visitors, and rental groups.Ensure camp remains welcoming, safe, and well-managed even when programs are not in session. *This is not an exhaustive list of job duties. REQUIREMENTS TO BE A CAMP EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, education, recreation, or related field.5+ years leadership experience in camping, youth services, or nonprofit management.Strong background in program development, staff supervision, and financial management.Experience in facilities management or willingness to learn.Ability to live on-site year-round.Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, CPR/First Aid required, Wilderness/Advanced certifications a plus.
