In this critical business counsel role, you will help our Retail Bank Operations organization refine and service new and existing banking products for our millions of banking customers. In this role, the Manager, Counsel will apply strategic and analytical skills to support our business teams. The attorney in this role will be responsible for providing support to the various teams within Retail Bank’s operations line of business. The successful candidate must be capable of quickly answering complex legal questions that arise in the banking space, including with respect to federal consumer banking laws and state laws impacting consumer deposit accounts.As business counsel, you will: Serve as the Legal point of contact for bank operations functions - including support for questions that arise in connection with garnishment of and other third-party claims against bank accounts, deceased accounts, and escheatment/unclaimed property reporting requirementsIdentify and coordinate resolution of potential line of business compliance or operational errorsPartner closely with other Compliance and Risk advisors to drive comprehensive and consistent supportPartner internally with other business counsel and legal subject matter experts to drive consistency and best practices across Capital One’s lines of business“Translate” the laws and legal requirements for the business teams and the business intent for the legal team and legal subject matter experts; andActively engage with colleagues to provide legal support as part of a collaborative and cross-functional team.Basic Qualifications:Juris Doctor from an accredited law schoolActive member in good standing of at least one state barAt least 3 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate or as in-house counselPreferred Qualifications:4+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency involving regulatory experience, with specific experience in advising bank depository business teamsExpertise in Regulation E, Regulation CC, Regulation DD, UDAAP, Articles 3, 4 and 4AKnowledge of deposit account ownership structures, FDIC insurance requirements, unclaimed property reporting requirements, and state probate and estate requirementsKnowledge of The Uniform Commercial Code (UCC)Ability to prioritize and manage a significant volume of legal questions on a broad array of topics with multiple and simultaneous deadlinesAbility to rapidly synthesize new information and make quick, well-grounded decisionsAbility and desire to learn new areas of lawStrong communication and interpersonal skillsStrong analytical and organizational skillsAt this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position. This role is hybrid meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.Chicago, IL: $144,000 - $164,400 for Manager, CounselMcLean, VA: $158,400 - $180,800 for Manager, CounselRichmond, VA: $144,000 - $164,400 for Manager, CounselRiverwoods, IL: $144,000 - $164,400 for Manager, CounselCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
