Job SummaryThe role of the Academic Coach is to support the use of effective instructional practices in the area of Mathematics and to serve as a liaison between the district and school staff to promote improved student achievement in mathematics.Essential FunctionsProvide support to teachers in the implementation of the math instructional components of the curriculumSupport the school's leadership team in monitoring the implementation of actions and strategies included in the School Improvement Plan for the purpose of assisting the school in meeting the identified goalsTeach model lessons for teachers of mathematics in order to demonstrate effective instructional practicesWork closely with the Math Lead and Principal in planning, implementing, and assessing reform efforts at the school for the purpose of creating a learning environment that supports academic achievement for all studentsWork with the school's leadership team to plan, develop, and implement a staff learning plan that addresses professional learning needsAssist in the school improvement planning and implementation processWork collaboratively with the District Offices to support district initiativesOther FunctionsAttend professional development led by the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Office of Teaching and Learning, and other offices (as directed)QualificationsMinimum RequirementsMaster's degree from an accredited college or universityThree years of full-time, paid, professional experience in teaching MathematicsAll work experience related to the position must be included on the resumeKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated knowledge of:PA Core State Standards for Mathematics, including the instructional shifts and their implications for instructioneffective lesson and unit planningthe principles, and methods of education in Mathresearch related to the field of mathematicsthe principles of adult learningbest practices for coaching teachers and school leadersDemonstrated ability to:provide feedback on teaching practice in alignment with Danielson Framework for Teachingdevelop and facilitate professional learning for school staff that is based on the tenets of impactful adult learningcommunicate effectively, both orally and in writingestablish and maintain effective working relationships
