Transportation Specialists

Overview Transportation specialists coordinate, monitor, control, and supervise the movement of personnel, equipment, and cargo by air, land, and sea. Along with managing technical and logistical support for all facets of transportation operations, they initiate, research, and propose necessary changes to the traffic management system for cost effectiveness and to meet mission requirements. Military Training All enlisted service members complete basic military training, which includes time spent in a classroom and in the field, and covers tactical and survival skills, physical training, military life and customs, and weapons training. Transportation specialists in the Military will gain skills through classroom study and on-the-job experience. Job-specific training topics relate to making transportation arrangements, and may include: Planning transportation for personnel and cargoProper cargo handling, shipping, and storing methodsAnalysis of transportation documents Helpful Attributes Interest in arranging travel schedules Interest in serving people Interest in using computers Related Civilian Careers Locomotive Engineers Reservation and Transportation Ticket Agents and Travel Clerks Shipping, Receiving and Inventory Clerks Laborers and Freight, Stock and Material Movers, Hand Cargo and Freight Agents Production, Planning and Expediting Clerks Passenger Attendants Transportation Security Screeners Supervisors of Mechanics, Installers and Repairers Packers and Packagers, Hand Procurement Clerks
