Senior Project Advisor

Reporting to the Manager, Capital Engineering and Construction, the Senior Project Advisor is responsible for the delivery of a suite of major transportation (road), waste management, and both linear and vertical water distribution and wastewater collection capital projects, utilizing a combination of in-house and external resources. This position would oversee a team of skilled project managers providing day-to-day supervision, mentoring, and coaching. Responsibilities:Manages numerous capital projects, informing the planning process and leading projects from the start of preliminary design through to commissioningProvides coaching, development opportunities, and team leadership to a diverse group of staff including professional engineers, and technical staffDesigns in-house projects in accordance with engineering standards and best practices and seals/stamps engineering drawings as appropriateSelects, directs, and supervises consulting engineers in the design and construction of regional capital worksEnsures the full involvement of client divisions/departments in the implementation of regional projects including coordinating the participation of infrastructure planning, water/wastewater operations, and maintenance and road operations staffEnsures that the works are constructed in compliance with the contract documents and applicable Health and Safety PoliciesProvides input to continuous improvement by working closely with the Engineering Management Office as well as upstream/downstream stakeholdersEnsures that all projects are delivered within expected timelines and in accordance with all applicable regulations, legislation and regional policy and by-laws (i.e., MECP, MOL, MTO)Collaborates with operating and maintenance divisions and other departments (purchasing, budgets, legal and realty) to ensure effective project deliveryReviews and oversees the tendering and awarding of Capital Projects and provides status reportsCoordinates with all related stakeholders including local municipalities, utilities, etc.Ensures that consultants and contractors are effectively managed to make certain deliverables are achievedParticipates in and supports departmental and corporate initiatives as a member of the extended management teamQualifications:Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng); must possess a valid membership with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)Minimum seven (7) years of project management experience in the successful delivery of large, and complex infrastructure projects.
