Job DescriptionThe Assistant Director of Academic Support Services reports to the Associate Director, StudentSuccess of Messina College. The incumbent will also work closely with campus partners(Faculty and Staff, Resident Director, Associate Dean, and the Asst. Director of CareerEducation) and University partners (Director of the Connors Family Learning Center as well asthe PMI Director of Mentoring & Academic Achievement and the Director of the MontserratCoalition) to coordinate support.As thenew two-year residential college division of Boston College, Messina College will offer an associate’s degree program for underrepresented, first-generation students annually beginning in the –25 academic year. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or begin their professional careers. Messina College students will live and study on the Brookline Campus of Boston College and have full access to BC’s facilities and events.The Assistant Director of Academic Support Services is responsible for assessing student academic needs and developing effective support strategies. He/she will coordinate academic support services for Messina College students with approved learning and attention accommodations with the Connors Family Learning Center, in addition to providing and overseeing content tutoring for all Messina College students. Accommodation services include disability advocacy and advising, classroom and test accommodations, priority registration, electronic books, and referral for testing and additional services.He/she will also serve as a resource for all students in the development of learning skills and study techniques. In this capacity, the Assistant Director will work with Messina College students on an as-needed basis to develop advanced study skills, organization skills, and time management techniques. The Assistant Director will assist faculty in promoting and reinforcing academic success skills. This person will hire and supervise student tutors to meet the academic support needs of the Messina College students.The Assistant Director also works closely with other University departments that provide academic tutoring services, including the Connors Family Learning Center, the Writing Center in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences English Department and the Mentoring and Academic Achievement pillar of the Pine Manor Institute of Student SuccessFull-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $65, to $81,; salary commensurate with relevant experience.RequirementsQualifications:Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, School Psychology or closely related field; 3-5 years of relevant higher education experience in academic skill development and disability; excellent writing, speaking, diagnostic, clinical, instructional, and interpersonal skills. 2-3 years of supervisory experience.Ability to interpret psycho-educational evaluations. Working knowledge of Section of the Rehabilitation Act of , Section of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of , the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability. Knowledge of common issues/ challenges and best practices in supporting a population of undergraduate students to succeed in higher education (including students with disabilities, students of color, and students with high financial need.Demonstrated flexibility, diplomacy and a willingness to serve all students.
