Computational Biologist, Cancer Center-(3281566) Description Computational Biologist in the Bar-Peled lab The Bar-Peled Lab of Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center at Harvard Medical School is accepting applications for a Computational Biologist . The laboratory uses cutting-edge chemical proteomics drug discovery platforms to develop small molecule inhibitors against the most challenging cancer drivers, those often considered ‘undruggable’. Specific studies relate to discovering druggable vulnerabilities in genetically defined cancers. To learn more about our research visit: Dr. Bar-Peled seeks exceptionally motivated candidates who enjoy large scale analysis and involving themselves in the dynamic and intellectual environment of the laboratory. We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about taking a hands-on, problem-solving approach, and collaborating with engineers and scientists in an informal collegial work environment that is infused with intellectual rigor. The right candidates will have outstanding academic records and strong communication skills, will demonstrate innovative and analytical thinking, and will enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team. She or he will join an a team of bioinformatics analysts, software engineers, chemists, biologists and clinicians who are working together to discover new cancer therapeutics. Furthermore, she or he will have the opportunity to become fully involved with all the steps of research being completed in our laboratory, often working directly with Dr. Bar-Peled, which will lead to numerous publications. Investigators in our laboratory will present at regular laboratory meetings. The Principal Responsibilities listed below are broad and may vary in scope as time progresses Apply existing and novel algorithms to cancer data sets, analyze data quality, critically review and analyze results, communicate results to biologists, computational biologists, software engineers and clinicians. Develop data analysis strategies, write algorithms, and deploy computational tools for the exploration of very large cancer data sets, such as The Cancer Genome Atlas project. Explore novel data visualization tools, with emphasis on integrating diverse data types Implement algorithms as software for distribution to the global cancer research community Qualifications Job Requirements and Qualifications: PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline. Strong programming skills and experience in algorithm development (using Java, Scala, Python, C++/C#). Knowledge of statistics and computational data analysis (R, Python or MATLAB) Knowledge of biology/genetics is not required, though it is a plus." EEO StatementMassachusetts General Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer. By embracing diverse skills, perspectives and ideas, we choose to lead.
