The Collins Genomics Lab at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute ) seeks a motivated Computational Biologist to advance research at the intersection of germline genetics, cancer genomics, and precision cancer prevention. The successful candidate will analyze large-scale genomic datasets to uncover inherited risk factors for cancer, understand their consequences in tumorigenesis, and develop computational tools that bridge research and clinical applications.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact studies aimed at improving early detection, prevention, and risk stratification across cancer types. The position is part of a collaborative environment spanning Dana-Farber, the Broad Institute, and other leading institutions.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze whole-genome and multimodal genomic data to study inherited cancer risk and early-onset disease.
  • Develop and maintain pipelines, algorithms, and data resources for large-scale population and clinical genomic studies.
  • Integrate germline and somatic genomic data with clinical outcomes to identify mechanisms of cancer predisposition.
  • Collaborate closely with computational and experimental scientists across Dana-Farber and partner institutions.
  • Contribute to codebase maintenance, documentation, and data sharing with collaborators and repositories.
  • Participate in group discussions, code review, and mentoring of junior lab members.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year with B.S. or 0 years with M.S. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, computer science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong background in statistics and biology; experience in human genetics is preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Background in cancer biology or genetics.
  • Interest in developing reproducible, open, and collaborative computational research.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and mentorship within a supportive, inclusive lab culture.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python and/or R preferred), and familiarity with Linux-based computing and cloud environments.
  • Experience managing, curating, or analyzing large genomic datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and eager to learn new methods and tools. 

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate's relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
