Department Assistant II, History

The History Department Assistant II will support the academic programs of the History Department and the Russian & East European Studies Program as follows: Coordinate programs, events, meetings, and activities supervised by History/REES faculty. Track budgets and coordinate payments and contracts as needed utilizing the College Finance software. Manage, maintain, and coordinate program/departmental records for History and REES Serve as the building manager for Ramer History House; coordinate with the History Department Head to ensure that necessary maintenance is completed, work orders are submitted in a timely fashion, and emergency preparedness plans are in place. Use Microsoft Office and Google Workspace programs as needed by History and REES. Master the Colleges administrative platforms, including Banner, Cognos and Emburse and use these tools efficiently as and when necessary. Purchase supplies and equipment using the p-card as needed and in coordination with faculty and staff, and coordinate p-card usage for History and REES. Update the History and REES website(s) using WordPress in coordination with department/program faculty, and the Colleges Communications Division. Coordinate spaces for History and REES students, as needed Assist with publicity of History and REES events. Handle office management duties including answering the phone and coordinating mail. Coordinate with faculty to ensure that they have the materials they need, including copies and scans of course documents and production-related materials. Master the Colleges educational platforms, including Moodle and Spaces. The person in this position will be the first point of contact for students, faculty, other staff, and visitors to Ramer History House. The position requires a detail-oriented person with strong interpersonal communication skills and an energetic, positive presence. Performing other duties as assigned Qualifications: Strong technology skills; proficiency with Google Suite (Calendar, Docs, Drive, GMail, Sheets), Microsoft Office Suite, and other common platforms is important An aptitude for and willingness to learn new technology Must possess excellent communication skills a friendly and professional demeanor Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem solving under pressure Ability to maintain confidentiality Must be service-oriented; intrinsically motivated to support the needs of students, parents, faculty, and other staff.
