Position Overview The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) at the University of Kansas (KU) works to address incidents of non-academic misconduct on campus and educates students about the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. SCCS seeks to foster a holistic learning environment through education focused on community membership and standards.Reporting to the Senior Student Conduct Hearing Officer in Student Conduct and Community Standards, the Prevention Education Coordinator develops and implements a full range of educational programming designed to support students’ understanding of the Jayhawk Values and adherence to the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The coordinator creates innovative prevention education programs related to hazing and other behaviors, as well as collaborates with other prevention educators on campus. The coordinator is involved in a variety of activities covering the entire student conduct process ( investigating and adjudicating allegations of nonacademic misconduct), participating in the training of University Hearing Officers, and assisting with office outreach to other departments.The primary focus of student conduct at the University of Kansas is educational rather than punitive. The guiding principle is to hold students accountable for behavior which violates the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities while preserving students’ rights and helping develop their decision-making abilities. SCCS employs a spectrum of resolution options to create conflict management experiences for students and student organizations.The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards exist within Student Affairs. KU Student Affairs coordinates and develops student support services and programs and serves as an advocate for student needs across the university community that contribute to overall academic success. Our mission is to engage the KU community in programs, services, and spaces that make learning possible Job Description 50% Community Standards and Prevention EducationDevelops and implements a full range of outreach and education programming designed to help students maximize their KU experience, accept accountability for their actions, and prevent violations of the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.Collaborates with university partners to plan unique educational experiences designed to support students’ ownership of the Jayhawk Values of Unity, Innovation, Inclusion, and Engagement.Coordinates the university’s comprehensive hazing prevention efforts. Develops a multi-year, multi-dose hazing prevention curriculum to address high-risk behaviors within student organizations.Manages Hawk Habits, KU’s ethical decision-making workshop for students found to be in violation of the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Continually revises content, recruits and trains facilitators, and tracks student participation in and learning through the experience.Presents student organization workshops on hazing prevention, community alignment with the Jayhawk Values, Student Conduct and Community Standards processes, and other topics as requested.Trains student organizations and the four Sorority and Fraternity Life governing councils on judicial board best practices and Student Conduct and Community Standards processes.Actively participants in and supports the prevention efforts and educational programming offered by Student Affairs units (, Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center, Sorority and Fraternity Life, Health Education Resource Office, etc.).Evaluates attainment of learning outcomes and advances best practices in student conduct practice at the university • Attends functions on behalf of the Office of Student Affairs (orientation, welcome events, etc.).Participates in other committees, task forces, or work groups on behalf of Student Conduct and Community Standards.30% Student Conduct AdministrationServes as a Hearing Officer for alleged violations of the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.Supervise and provide leadership, direction, and support for Graduate Assistant(s)Reviews, evaluates, investigates, adjudicates, and sets sanctions for cases of alleged student misconduct violations in accordance with appropriate University policies and processes.Maintains records and files of disciplinary cases in keeping with applicable University policies and state/federal laws.Conducts regular follow-up with students who have not completed assigned sanctions and places administrative holds on accounts when appropriate.Inputs, maintains, and updates information regarding cases, inquiries, and content in respective databases. 20% Marketing & CommunicationsManages the office’s social media and promotional efforts in alignment with community standards and prevention education efforts.Develops promotional materials for branding and advertising, including social media posts, press releases and other publications.Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements This position requires regular evening and weekend commitments. The Coordinator’s work schedule will be adjusted accordingly to balance these commitments. Required Qualifications Master's degree by employment in higher education, college student personnel, educational leadership, counseling, psychology, social welfare, public health, public administration or related field or law degree; or a bachelor's degree plus two years of related experience. Minimum of one year experience planning inclusive educational programs for diverse populations. Two years as a graduate assistant is equivalent to one-year professional experience. Excellent written communication skills, as evidenced by application materials. Exceptional public speaking and facilitation skills with individuals and groups, as evidenced in application materials. This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations Preferred Qualifications Experience working with student organizations including sororities and fraternities.Work experience that required a demonstrated understanding of community programming, leadership development, conflict resolution, and legal issues in higher education, as evidenced by application materials. Familiar with referral processes and typical campus resources. Experience providing consultation to university faculty, staff, and administration, as evidenced by application materials. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range population of students, staff, faculty, administrators, and other members of the community, as evidenced by application materials. Experience managing confidential and sensitive information, as evidenced by application materials. Proven ability in assisting students in unbiased reflection on behavior, ethical decision-making, values, and community membership, as evidenced by application materials. Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations, as evidenced by application materials..Membership in Association for Student Conduct Administration, as evidenced by application materials.
