Position OverviewReporting to the Program Manager Writing Services of the Wingspan: Center for Learning and Writing Support, the Student Success Coordinator supports the University Academic Support Centers (UASC) leadership in the ongoing development of the Wingspan and the culture of writing at the University of Kansas (KU) by coordinating embedded writing support in KU English corequisite course, and capstone courses and ensuring the Wingspan provides a range of adaptive, student-focused programming. The Student Success Coordinator is primarily focused on coordinating embedded writing support for composition and capstone courses, including hiring, training, and supervising embedded writing consultants. Embedded writing consultants work directly in and with a course by attending class, providing writing consultation time and drop-in support, and communicating with faculty and students. Outside of this primary duty, the Student Success Coordinator is engaged in projects supportive of writing center services and will coordinate the development and implementation of workshops and learning resources for students.The Student Success Coordinator works as part of a collaborative leadership team to manage the daily operations of the Wingspan: Center for Learning and Writing Support. This is a position within the Wingspan, a unit in the University Academic Support Centers, which offers programs and services to students, faculty, and staff across all writing levels and disciplines.Unit Overview:University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support unit designed to provide resources to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at KU while supporting the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. Specifically, UASC supports the intellectual development of individuals by encouraging active participation both in and out of the classroom; coordinating services and programs in which students can acquire and practice life management, decision-making, and learning skills; and linking students to other resources that will help them learn these skills. UASC includes the Wingspan-Center for Learning and Writing Support, the Student Access Center, and the University Testing Center. UASC is a department within the Office of Academic Success.Job Description55%: Coordinates the development and facilitation of writing and academic success focused workshops and student success focused programming. Creates and implements workshops and learning resources for students to access in person and virtually. Intakes and coordinates workshop requests from faculty and student organizations. Collaborates with campus partners on the coordination of programs geared towards student learning, academic success, and persistence. Supervises graduate assistant and program assistants that help with workshops and programming coordination and facilitation. 15%: Collaborates with the Program Manager, Writing Center Services, to coordinate the embedded writing program, including but not limited to hiring, training, scheduling, observations, and professional development for a cohort of 7-10 writing consultants. The embedded writing program will provide support for English co-requisite courses and undergraduate writing groups for capstone courses at KU. Additionally, creates resources and schedules rooms to support sessions. Serves as the primary contact for the embedded writing program. Collaborates with faculty alongside the Program Manager, Writing Center Services, to define and implement the most effective and beneficial academic support for composition students at KU.15%: Works with the Associate Director to lead ongoing assessment of Center for Learning and Writing Support programs and services. Uses quantitative and qualitative data to assess program outcomes with a view towards continual improvement. Assesses student needs. Develops and implements services, events, workshops, and materials to meet identified needs.10%: Maintains active scholarly practice in learning assistance programs, college student development, and/or one or more areas of writing studies. Maintains involvement in relevant professional organizations and participates in scholarly and professional development activities consistent with current trends, developments, and high impact practices in learning assistance programs and writing centers. Represents the Center for Learning and Writing Support on university committees as requested.5%: Other duties as assigned.Position RequirementsAbility to work evenings and weekends as needed.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in English, rhetoric, literacy, education, humanities or a related discipline.One (1) year of experience providing student support services.Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by the cover letter and resume.Demonstrated experience working collaboratively as evidenced by application materials.This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position.
