This role is positioned within Human Resources and serves on the President's Council, providing leadership across compliance, training, and engagement related initiatives. The position serves as a campus' liaison to SUNY as the designated chief diversity officer, pursuant to SUNY Policy and will further the commitments of the SUNY System Administration. Key Areas of Leadership 1. Campus Culture and Inclusion Advance strategies that promote a healthy, respectful, and supportive environment for students, faculty, and staff.Support engagement across varied identitiesGuide professional development efforts focused on the prevention of harassment and discrimination, as well as professional, engaging and productive interactions. 2. Policy Development and Regulatory Alignment Evaluate, develop and recommend updates to institutional policies to ensure alignment with civil rights laws.Promote best practice hiring and employment practices, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations.Support institutional readiness and responsiveness to evolving legal and regulatory frameworks with a focus on institutional compliance. 3. Institutional Compliance and Response Offer leadership in the coordination of responses to bias-related incidents and civil rights concerns.Ensure fair and trauma-informed processes for reviewing and resolving complaints.Maintain systems that support transparency and accountability in compliance-related activities. 4. Education and Capacity Building Lead campus-wide education initiatives on topics such as gender equity, disability rights, and anti-discrimination laws.Collaborate with campus partners to build capacity for supportive environments across departments and programs. 5. Strategic Partnerships and Resource Development Cultivate partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to create an environment supportive of all students and staff Identify funding opportunities to support institutional compliance efforts.Serve as a visible leader and advisor to senior leadership on emerging issues in campus culture and compliance. Organizational Context This position is classified as Management Confidential (M/C).Reports jointly to the President (for SUNY Chief Diversity Officer objectives ) and the CHRO/Director of Human Resources.Holds Officer roles and Serves as the primary liaison to the SUNY participating in system-wide compliance and diversity leadership initiatives such as those outlined in SUNY Policy or here: . Requirements: Required Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Communication Studies, Public Administration, Education Leadership, Legal Studies, Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in equity, compliance, and training.Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in equity, compliance, inclusion, employee relations, or related fields within complex or evolving organizational settings.Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying federal, state, and local non-discrimination laws and regulations, including but not limited to New York Executive Law, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, ADA, and FERPA.Experience conducting trauma-informed and complex objective investigations related to civil rights or compliance matters.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with individuals from all backgrounds, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.Demonstrated ability to lead institutional change, navigate sensitive issues, and maintain confidentiality and discretion in high-stakes environments.Experience using data and preparing reports required for compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
