Summary of Job Duties:

As an A-Week Team Lead, you will provide leadership and support to A-Week Leaders and support the Transition Programs and Initiatives (TPAI) professional staff to execute all activities for A-Week. This includes facilitating A-Week Leader engagement prior to A-Week, lead programming for first-gen students, help lead A-Week Leader training and provide input in planning and development of A-Week programming. Aid in facilitating the objectives and small-group activities as it relates to the A-Week fall transition initiatives. A-Week Team Leads are required to attend designated daily topic-specific programs and be available for their assigned group of A-Week mentors each day during A-Week. A-Week Team Leads support the learning outcomes and goals of the Office of Transition Programs and Initiatives

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Be a current University of Arkansas Undergraduate Student

Must have served previously as an A-Week Leader

Applicants must have completed at least one (1) full semester at the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville (minimum 12 credit hours)

Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.25 at the time of application and at the end of the spring semester. No student may apply for or hold a TPAI leadership position while on academic or disciplinary probation

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have leadership skills and experiences

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

Leadership Skills: Serve as a role model for incoming students. Leadership skills are crucial for guiding freshmen through their transition to university life

Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential. You need to be able to convey information clearly, listen actively to students' concerns, and provide constructive feedback

Empathy and Patience: Empathy and patience are essential qualities for understanding struggles and providing support

Academic Excellence: As an A-Week Team Lead, you should have a strong academic background in your field of study. This knowledge will help you assist freshmen with academic inquiries and provide guidance on resources that lead to academic success

Time Management: You'll need to prioritize tasks and allocate time efficiently to fulfill your duties as a leader

Adaptability: Each student you mentor will have unique needs and challenges. Being adaptable allows you to tailor your approach to meeting individual student requirements effectively

Conflict Resolution Skills: At times, you may encounter conflicts or disagreements among others. Having the ability to mediate conflicts and find mutually acceptable solutions is essential for maintaining a positive and supportive mentorship environment

Knowledge of University Resources: Familiarize yourself with the various support services and resources available on campus, such as academic advising, counseling services, and extracurricular opportunities. This knowledge will enable you to direct freshmen to the appropriate resources when needed

Ethical Conduct: Maintain professionalism and integrity in your interactions with students and other members of the campus community

Commitment to Personal Growth: Finally, demonstrate a commitment to your own personal and professional development. Reflect on your experiences as a leader, seek feedback from others, and continually strive to improve your skills and effectiveness in supporting other students
