Description As a Gilead intern you will contribute to high-impact meaningful projects that will not only further advance our company’s mission but will allow you to gain real world experience at one of the most innovative organizations in the world. You will also have opportunities to participate in special events including professional development and leadership presentations, social/network building activities and local community volunteer programs.Key Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following: Purify high-quality membrane proteins from mammalian or insect cell expression systemsReconstitute membrane proteins into various membrane mimetic systemsEvaluate and characterize the quality, stability, functionality, and cryo-EM suitability of membrane protein targets in different mimetic systemsApply classical protein purification techniques—including affinity, ion exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography—using AKTA chromatography systemsShowcase your work with a final presentation (PPT) near the conclusion of your internshipRequired Qualifications:Must be at least 18 years oldMust have a minimum GPA of 2.8Authorized to work in the United States without Sponsorship now or in the future or CPT/OPT through your University.Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s/Masters/MBA/PhD program at an accredited US based university or collegeMust be a Rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior in undergrad or a Graduate or Doctoral StudentMust be enrolled full-time in the Fall Semester at an accredited university/college after the completion of the internshipMust be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between May and AugustMust be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internshipPreferred Qualifications:Preferred Degree qualification: Currently enrolled in a PhD program in a relevant field such as membrane protein biology, structural biology, or protein biochemistryIdeally in the 4th or 5th year of a PhD program, nearing completion, with extensive research experience in related areasStrong foundational knowledge of protein biochemistry and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex experimental challengesProficiency in protein purification techniques across various expression systemsDemonstrated experience with classical protein purification methods and chromatographic instruments (e.g., AKTA)Solid knowledge and hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: protein science analytics (e.g., sequence alignment, protein structure analysis using modeling software), SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, FPLC/HPLC, dynamic light scattering (DLS), differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF), and mass spectrometryExcellent communication and presentation skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a teamStrong attention to detail, accurate record-keeping, and commitment to good laboratory practices and citizenshipProficiency with MS Office SuiteAbility to identify issues and seek solutionsAbility to work both independently and collaborativelyDemonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity in the workplaceEfficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environmentGilead Core Values:Integrity (Doing What’s Right)Inclusion (Encouraging Diversity)Teamwork (Working Together)Excellence (Being Your Best)Accountability (Taking Personal Responsibility)The expected hourly range for this position is $19.00 - $55.00.Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including education level and geographic location.
