Research Assistant in Regenerative Biology and Bioengineering

What the role entails:The Division of Cell Matrix Biology and Regenerative Medicine within the School of Biological Sciences wish to appoint a laboratory-based Research Assistant to an exciting project exploring the use of engineered biomaterials to examine how extracellular matrix architecture influences stem cell differentiation in the context of osteoarthritis.During this post, the successful candidate will undertake a range of activities, including:Contributing to a project investigating how 3D engineered microenvironments modulate stem cell behaviour in osteoarthritis, working under the guidance of Dr Mahetab Amer and in collaboration with academic and clinical partners in Manchester and across the UK; this will include working with clinical samples in accordance with governance procedures.Generating original ideas and contributing to the analysis and interpretation of research findings in collaboration with Dr Amer’s research group.Maintaining accurate and complete records of experimental procedures, data, and sample inventories in accordance with institutional policies and Good Laboratory Practice.Contributing to the dissemination of research outputs through publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at scientific meetings and conferences, with guidance where appropriate.Supporting the activities of the research group to ensure effective delivery of the research programme, including active participation in group meetings and seminars.Providing advice and practical support to other members of the group, assisting in the supervision of junior students, and contributing to day-to-day laboratory organisation.Working independently and as part of a wider team of researchers and collaborators.Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, ethical approvals, and sample-handling procedures.Maintaining and continually developing knowledge, skills, and understanding relevant to the research field.These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list.
