Job Description The School of Nursing seeks a full-time faculty member to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students in the BSN program. The faculty member will engage in teaching, service and scholarship activities, and works collaboratively with colleagues across the University as well as with Dr. Tammy L. Gravel, Dean. Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students and contributes to the visibility, impact and reputation of the University and its programs through research and scholarly engagement. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching in the classroom, clinical and laboratory courses to undergraduate in the School of Nursing. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Travel among the Boston, Worcester and Manchester campuses may be required for School of Nursing meetings/retreats. Responsibilities: Deliver didactic, laboratory and/or experiential instruction via multiple formats (in-person, online, or in a ‘blended’ format) in the BSN program. Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria. Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of concepts covered. Supports incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities. Participate in service activities; serve on committees; serve on regional, state, or national organization committees and volunteer activities; represent the program and University in/at community functions; attend School and institutional activities such as Commencement and ceremonies; and support student activities such as health fairs and service projects. Participate in scholarship resulting in conference presentations, publishable manuscripts, peer-reviewed instructional materials, or other outcomes consistent with expectations for scholarly activities described in the Faculty Manual. Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students. Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms. Provide service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment. Attend and participate in monthly School and Department meetings, University ceremonies, and other major events, and serves as a member of University, School and/or Department committees, as assigned. Contribute to periodic reviews and revisions of departmental course offerings. Maintain advanced knowledge in discipline and areas of expertise. Build and maintain relationships with professional organizations involved with the healthcare sector. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor. Teaching Activities: Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and an awareness of new developments in the field in order to update the approach to teaching or content Delivers lectures and facilitates group discussion using active learning methods Develops new learning assessment techniques Recommends and/or develops new courses or programs Develops new teaching materials or instructional techniques Integrates course(s) in collaboration with others in the curriculum Takes a leadership role in course evaluation and revision to improve existing course(s) Achieves consistently effective teaching performance as evidenced by student evaluations/comments/letters Manages laboratories/tutorials effectively Leads and coordinates team-taught courses including labs Provides guidance on individual student Research and Capstone projects Develops practice sites and engages in overseeing student learning Develops individualized interventions for students having difficulty Recognizes and addresses different learning styles Demonstrates the ability to teach courses across the BSN curriculum Evaluates student achievement of all nursing competencies (didactic and clinical) Participates in the development of nursing curriculum plan which provides a variety of learning experiences consistent with the program’s mission, objectives and goals Supports incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities. Scholarship Activities: Faculty members should make scholarly contributions to their fields of specialization, which may include the area of teaching and learning. In research, these contributions should involve diligent, systematic investigations, employing sound research techniques, such that new facts or principles are added to the body of knowledge in that area. Service Activities: Faculty members should contribute a portion of their time and expertise to college, professional and community service. This service may involve helping student groups, serving on committees, aiding in administrative work within the college or providing similar services to professional or public groups outside the college. Participates in the governance of the parent institution and program for the accomplishment of institution and program goals. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of policies which are consistent with the policies of the parent institution, or with differences that are justified by the goals of the nursing program. Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the systematic evaluation plan for all components of the program. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the Assistant/Associate Dean and/or Dean. Requirements Required: A minimum of a master's degree in nursing; RN licensure (or eligibility) in Massachusetts or New Hampshire as appropriate RN licensure in good standing (MA and/or NH, as appropriate to assigned campus) Nursing education experience at the baccalaureate level Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Ability to work effectively within a dynamic team and in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. Ability to work effectively with a culturally and academically diverse student population. Commitment to undergraduate education and student success. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Massachusetts based faculty must have a working knowledge of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing 244 CMR 6.00 (will be provided during orientation) NH based faculty must have a working knowledge of NH Board of Registration in Nursing Chapter Nur 600 Nursing Education (will be provided during orientation) Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment Doctoral degree in nursing or relevant discipline preferred Academic experience including syllabus development, class preparation, test/exam development and item analysis preferred Knowledge of the NCSBN NCLEX test plan Online teaching experience preferred Experience utilizing standardized testing to determine outcome measures Current clinical practicum area of specialty Physical Requirements: Sufficient strength and mobility to work effectively with patients/students and to carry out related nursing care responsibilities including lab activities. Examples: lifting and positioning (up to 50 pounds); carrying (up to 25 pounds), walking, preparation and administration of medications (oral, injection, intravenous, including hanging IV bags at shoulder height), bending and stooping. Ability to sit for extended periods of time using a keyboard, and to ambulate between classes and buildings on campus. Ability to be physically in attendance at designated worksite during scheduled work hours Normal range of vision and hearing (with or without correction)
