Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership (Elementary), the position is responsible for directing the development, implementation and coordination of curriculum, instructional programs and professional learning at the elementary level.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupervise the division-wide elementary instructional program.Collaborate with the Director for Secondary Curriculum and Instruction to ensure all instructional initiatives are aligned K-12.Lead and provide direction for the division’s literacy program.Supervise, provide guidance and collaborate with the coordinator of gifted education.Manage the Title I Federal Grant and oversee implementation of all associated programs/personnel.Coordinate curriculum and assessment development, implementation and revision.Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional methods and recommend revisions as needed.Provide regular, school-based instructional supervision to ensure alignment of the written, taught and assessed curriculum.Supervise and provide guidance in the selection of program textbooks and instructional materials.Recommend expansion or elimination of courses and programs as necessary.Coordinate division-wide elementary education activities which also includes summer programs.Provide guidance regarding the content of online course developmentParticipate in instructional audits and academic reviews.Collaborate with the Department of Human Resources to interview and recommend candidates to fill instructional coordinator positions; a doctoral degree is preferred.Extensive administrative, leadership and educational experience.Considerable knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional learning.Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of: school administration; policies and regulations governing the school division for local, state and federal entities; school division objectives, procedures, and organization; school personnel and administrative practices, procedures, and methods; principles and methods for curriculum and training design; teaching and instruction for individuals and groups; the measurement of training effects; and effective leadership practices.Extensive experience and knowledge in the implementation of effective literacy initiatives.Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills and establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, administrators, teachers, staff and associates.Supervision ExercisedSupervises elementary content coordinators (English, Math and Social Studies), Coordinator of Gifted Education, Coordinator of Fine Arts, and personnel associated with the Title I Federal Grant.Supervision ReceivedPerforms duties under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership (Elementary) who provides guidance and direction.Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls.
