Lead Medical AssistantPosition Summary A Lead Practice Medical Assistant will perform a variety of clinical and office duties under the physician/provider/nurse direct supervision. The Lead MA will effectively manage and delegate the team's roles and responsibilities to ensure the clinical floor flows properly. The Lead MA will work with the Practice Administrator to promote and maintain the practice goals and policies and procedures. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: 1. Adheres to WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors 2. Performs and assigns patient care responsibilities to practice Medical Assistants that may include checking patient schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam etc.; obtaining patient history; performing patient screening per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls. 3. Performs and assigns patient care responsibilities to practice Medical Assistants including sending/receiving patient records and documents; scheduling procedures and tests; obtaining precertification for health care services; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing patient s charts to ensure information is complete. 4. Maintains and ensures orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned rooms and ensures par levels of supplies are maintained. Checks and completes required logs for equipment and other required checks. 5. Maintains and ensures environmental responsibilities are completed including but not limited to cleaning exam and procedure rooms; maintaining infection control protocols; keeping appropriate records; ordering and stocking of supplies. 6. Assists provider with management of EMR/HER. 7. Fulfills medical assistant responsibilities including medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping and autoclaving as well as obtaining vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, prepping and assisting with exams and other specific tasks as needed. 8. Participates as a member of the patient care team and is responsible for participating in daily huddles and regular scheduled practice team meetings. 9. Understands and adheres to all hospital policies including but not limited to Performance Standards, Appearance and Attendance. 10. Performs all other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required Successful completion of a six-month (6) to one (1) year course in Medical Assisting at an accredited school, required As of July 15th, 2018, BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all Medical Assistants Medical Assistants must have their BLS upon hire or obtain within 3 months of hire. Medical Assistants must adhere to the NYS Medical Assistant scope of practice Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), preferred Basic medical terminology, Electronic Scheduling and Electronic Medical Record experience required Minimum two years of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant preferred. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can be found at each site as well as at the hospital’s switchboard saved on a disc.
