Terms and Conditions apply**The HLD Technician, under the supervision of a manager or supervisor, performs a variety of indirect patient care activities. This may include decontamination and high level disinfection (HLD) of instruments and equipment. This job ensures all necessary instruments and supplies are prepared and ready for assembly on case carts. This job observes strict patient confidentiality following all HIPAA rules and regulations. This job maintains a clean and safe environment.Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current GI/Endoscope certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification is an acceptable substitute for CBSPD.Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Maintaining CBSPD Experience REQUIRED: None required Experience PREFERRED: Previous work experience as a High Level Disinfection, Sterile Processing Technician or healthcare related position. Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent.Education/training PREFERRED: Immediately after employment: Completion with a passing grade of the VCUHS on-line course for reprocessing of flexible endoscopes. Immediately after employment: Completion of International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) certification preparation course. Independent action(s) required: Decontaminate and sterilize all instruments and equipment according to procedures. Maintain inventory and par levels of all instruments and supplies. Follows OSHA and TJC guidelines. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): N/AAdditional position requirements: Depending on the area assigned, technicians are expected to rotate shifts including weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations if applicable, and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or in the best interest of the work unit.
