The Manager, Sterile Processing/High-Level Disinfection Compliance is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating strategic initiatives, clinical management, and operational oversight of the Sterile Processing/High Level Disinfection departments/functions within the health system. Responsible for ensuring that such functions are within the limitations of laws, regulations, education, and hospital policies and procedures. Will assist with leading, manages, reviews, and trains all functions within the facilities/departments across markets to establish VCU Health standards. Oversees and coordinates functions related to but not limited to decontamination, assembly, sterilization, disinfection, and storage of instruments/medical devices as well as ongoing maintenance, repairs, and replacement. Maintains appropriate documentation on all related information systems for the purpose of implementing training procedures for personnel to include EPIC People Soft and instrument tracking system. Must ensure that Responsible for keeping abreast of all standards of care and maintaining structured record keeping functions to ensure compliance with Federal, State & any accreditation requirements (i.e. The Joint Commission, CMS, etc.). Essential Job Statements Responsible for implementing all operational workflows, standards, policies, and procedures related to the decontamination, inspection, sterilization, procurement, storage, organization, and distribution of surgical inventory within the Central Sterile Processing and High Level Disinfection Departments. Assures that the standards of operation of the department are following the standards set by regulatory agencies, such as the State Department of Health, JCAHO, and others. Responsible for direct oversight and responsibility that ensures best practices are consistently being applied across the health system in every setting. Facilitate timely evaluation of safety events involving the department or staff and implement planned corrective actions. Responsible for helping with accurately managing and preparing the annual budget relating to Central Sterile Processing/ High level disinfection departments. Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the VCUHS Partner with system leaders, to drive operational initiatives to shape VCUHS culture by ensuring operational designs, structures, and systems are in place that foster an environment of learning, innovation, and agility. Up to date on all regulatory bodies to ensure standards are being met and help initiate best practices. Fill in for any other manager within SPD when needed. Patient Population: N/A Employment Qualifications Required Education: Associate degree or high school or 7 years of experience Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree Licensing/ Certification Licensure/Certification Required: Certification as CRCST or above through HSPA OR certification as CSPDT or above through CBSPD AND Certification as CER through HSPA OR certification as CFER through CBSPD Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certification as CHL through HSPA OR certification as CSPM through CBSPD. Will need within a year of hire. Minimum Qualifications Years and Type of Required Experience: Seven years of hands-on experience within sterile processing or high-level disinfection with 2 of those years of progressive leadership and/or supervisory/management experience Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Job requires extensive use of an instrument tracking system to run reports to check compliance. Cultural Responsiveness: N/A Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. Required to car travel to off-site locations, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids. * May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials. * May have periods of constant interruptions. Prolonged periods of working alone. * Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
