About the RoleAre you ready to grow your career in vehicle maintenance? First Student is hiring a skilled Technician II to keep our fleet running safely and reliably. In this hands-on role, you'll perform a mix of routine and advanced mechanical work on school buses, vans, and other vehicles, while working under moderate supervision. You’ll also support senior technicians and help guide junior team members.If you have solid mechanical skills, take pride in safety and organization, and are looking for an opportunity to advance—this could be the role for you.$25.00/hrWhat You’ll DoPerform preventative maintenance, visual inspections, and minor repairs (bulbs, belts, fluids, filters, batteries, hoses, etc.)Complete more advanced mechanical repairs under moderate supervision—brakes, tune-ups, suspension, clutches, drive trains, and moreAssist Technician III with PMs, safety checks, and major component replacements (engine, transmission, differential)Diagnose and troubleshoot vehicle and equipment issues with accuracyRespond to road calls and emergency repairs as neededMaintain accurate records of completed work, including parts usage and work ordersMove vehicles safely around the yard and maintain a clean work environmentHelp maintain and repair shop equipmentClean vehicles as requestedFollow all company safety policies and proceduresWhat We’re Looking ForHigh school diploma or GED preferredVocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred3+ years of diesel or automotive repair experience (or equivalent education/experience)Valid driver’s licenseClass B CDL with passenger endorsement (or ability to obtain within 3 months)ASE Certification preferred; must participate in ASE testing and obtain 3 ASE certifications within 12 monthsIntermediate mechanical and diagnostic skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamOrganized, detail-oriented, and safety-focusedComfortable with hand tools and diagnostic softwareStrong communication and customer service skillsMust have personal tool inventory suitable for the rolePhysical RequirementsMust be able to lift at least 50 poundsAbility to work in all weather conditions and in shop environments with dust, grease, and noiseMust be able to work in crouched or prone positions using a creeper under vehiclesWhy Join First Student?Competitive pay and potential shift premiumsASE certification support and career growth opportunitiesPositive and safety-first work environmentNationwide footprint with room to advance
