Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (tenure track) in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs of the College of Sciences and Humanities (COSH). The department welcomes applications from individuals who are prepared to teach core courses and electives. The normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester with advising and mentorship, program assessment, and institutional and community service responsibilities. Faculty may be directed to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description. Competitive candidates will be student-centered, effective teachers who will also be expected to engage in research, grant writing, academic advising and mentorship, and service. Familiarity with accreditation standards and program assessment is needed. NOTE: In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required eligibility verification form upon hire. This position does not offer sponsorship for employment visas.  Responsibilities Teach 24 credit hours per academic year Support student success through effective teaching, mentoring, advising and student engagementParticipate in student recruitment and retention effortsEngage in scholarly activities that contribute to the advancement of the disciplineParticipate in institutional, community, and professional service activitiesParticipate in curriculum development and program assessment Engage in professional growth and development appropriate to the disciplineFulfill additional responsibilities outlined in the University Faculty HandbookManage and utilize online platforms effectively, with a preference for experience using Desire2LearnContribute to a positive work environment in the department and the UniversityEngage with industry partners, professionals in the field, alumni, and the broader community to support workforce development initiatives.  Required Qualifications Graduate degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, or a related field.The ideal candidate should have experience in teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in emergency management, homeland security, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, or a related field.
