Job DescriptionThe Early Career Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist will support senior-level engineers and geologists in executing a variety of geotechnical projects within open-pit mining. This role requires a working knowledge of engineering and geology principles, and the ability to manage and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously.Typical project roles and responsibilities include:Field work, including geotechnical core logging, face mapping, downhole geophysical logging, and installation of instrumentation and monitoring equipmentPreparation and analysis of analytical and numerical slope stability modelsJoint set and shear zone characterization and kinematic analysisRock and soil materials characterization and laboratory test planningEvaluation and analysis of instrumentation and monitoring dataGeneral support of open-pit geotechnical projects of all typesQualificationsThe ideal candidate will have the following:Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering geology, geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, mining engineering, or a closely related discipline0 - 5 years of experience that includes fieldworkStrong interest and technical background in mine geotechnics, rock mass characterization, kinematic analysis, slope stability modeling, field investigations, and instrumentation and monitoringDesire to build foundational field and analysis skills and be mentored by experienced professionalsDesire to travel and ability to conduct field investigations in remote locationsWorking knowledge of geotechnical field investigation and instrumentation and monitoring methodsWorking knowledge of rock mass characterization and slope stability analysis methodsExperience performing rock mass characterization, geotechnical core logging, technical proficiency in open pit mine planning and stability modeling software, and mine operations experience is preferredMust possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record; position requires operating a company or personal vehicle during work hours for business-related travelAdditional InformationCompensation: Salary depends on experience and expertise.
