Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position that works on average 35-40 hours a week. Overtime may be required. This employee will work a variable schedule to include nights, weekends, and split shifts. The hours are dependent on the needs of the individuals being served supporting their long-term employment success.

Summary:

The key function of the Employment and Training specialist is to provide long-term support to customers working at various employment sites throughout Muskegon and Ottawa County. This position also provides training opportunities for job seekers and job coaching as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Support individuals in long-term employment placements at various worksites.
  • Facilitate effective communication among employers, employees, funders, and families.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service for both employees and employers.
  • Respond to phone calls from families, employees, and funders within 24 hours.
  • Aid in the collection of pay stubs and educate employees on submitting wages to social security.
  • Assist with curriculum development to enhance training effectiveness and relevance.
  • Conduct training sessions for job seekers, both individually and in groups.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Therap, tailored to meet the requirements of funding sources.
  • Collaborate with Healthwest/CMH Case Managers and participate in IPOS meetings to assist in goal development for employees.
  • Engage in long-term retention efforts, including navigating difficult conversations when necessary.
  • Offer recommendations for accommodations, work methods, and assistive technology.
  • Ensure the health and safety of participants and others, including providing training and enforcing safety regulations.
  • Advocate for participants' rights and confidentiality, including reporting incidents as required.
  • Obtain and maintain accurate documentation from host sites and employers, submitting progress reports and forms as necessary.
  • Maintain an attitude of continuous improvement and innovation, actively seeking opportunities to enhance program effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Provide backup support for other staff duties as assigned by management.

Education/Talent Requirements:

  • Associate degree in psychology, public administration, human services, marketing, or other related degree preferred.
  • A valid Michigan Driver’s license, and a good driving record.
  • This person must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with persons being served and with other personnel.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all customers including, natural supports, participants, employers, and co-workers.
  • Completion of training relevant to rehabilitation and/or training necessary to be compliant with Medicaid guidelines and mental Health contracts.

Travel:

Up to 50% Company vehicle is not supplied. Personal vehicle is required.

This travel may include use of your own personal vehicle or company vehicle, when available. This position drives employment sites to provide services within Muskegon and Ottawa County. Out of town travel may also be required for trainings and seminars, which may include overnight stays.

Work Environment: This position works in close proximity to people. While most of the working time is spent indoors in a residential environment or office, employees in this position may work outdoors in all seasons for short periods of time, e.g., assisting a resident into a vehicle, taking a resident on an outing, snow removal, etc.

Physical Demands of the Job:

Light work. No more than 20 pounds with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.

Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.
