General Description:

The Medical Assistant is a position that is responsible for Medical Assistance to the Physicians, in our very busy Infectious Disease clinic, along with basic clerical tasks such as answering phones, greeting patients and visitors.

This position performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places emphasis on quality patient care and patient relations. The incumbent must work collaboratively with all Clinical services staff in support of direct patient services, exhibiting flexibility and a “can-do” attitude. Patient services are the key priority in this position requiring them to serve as a point of contact with other internal and external departments, all with the goal of fostering an environment which promotes patient comfort and trust. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising the utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.

Job Duties:

- Provides initial medical screening and obtains daily patient vital signs, brief update on patient’s condition

- With a sense of urgency, efficiently responds to lab results received, prescription refill requests, miscellaneous patient related faxes and emails.

- Has keen and full knowledge of what may be considered urgent or critical information, with the ability to effectively communicate such issues with the appropriate Physician in a timely manner.

· Maintains cleanliness of Exam Rooms according to strict protocols and compliance with infection control standards.

· Ensures all necessary supplies are stocked. Promptly reports when supplies are low and works with management to ensure timely reordering is completed.

· Performs general clerical duties in support of patient services according to the needs of the clinic. These include but are not limited to answering phones, electronic faxing, typing, processing Prior Authorizations, etc. Works with Practice Management/EMR system to assist with Patient Registration.

· Accepts floating assignments to other areas, performs additional duties, as assigned by the MD and Practice Manager.

· Performs routine quality check of equipment and promptly reports damaged or missing equipment.

· Acts in capacity as interpreter, as needed.

General Qualifications:

1. Excellent communication skills at the level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor’s instructions, and for accurately documenting patients' medical information.

2. Intermediate computing and phone skills.

3. Willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekends; demonstrates flexibility regarding job duties and assignments.

4. Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.

5. Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.

6. Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions,” always demonstrates professionalism.

7. Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.

8. Bilingual English/Spanish required.

9. COVID vaccination is required

Experience/Skills:

Experience: Entry level, previous office administration or receptionist and Medical Assistant experience and a minimum of five years work experience in a medical office setting, as a Medical Assistant. IF YOU DO NOT MEET THIS REQUIREMENT, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY.

Skills:

Telephone etiquette, Exemplary Customer Service, basic word and excel knowledge, time management, multi-tasking, organization, scheduling, and computer literate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $21.50 per hour
