Survey Crew Chief with 5+ years of experience in Boundary, Topographic and Utility field surveys. Candidate must have a solid understanding of GPS and horizontal control traverses and be familiar with data collection software. This is an opportunity to be directly involved with surveying on a wide variety of challenging projects, including substations and transmission lines, roadway designs, and mixed-use subdivisions.  Candidate shall possess good communication skills, and an ability and willingness to solve field problems. Specialized training is available.  The selected candidate will work closely with Survey Project Managers, Technical staff, and the Associate-in-Charge. 

Responsibilities:

• Provide day-to-day supervision and assignment of field tasks to crew members
• Conduct or participate in pre-job briefings and safety tailboard meetings
• Understanding of survey quality controls and survey methodology 

• Coordinate daily activities with client field superintendents 

• Identify horizontal and vertical controls for property boundaries, ROW surveys and topographic locations, and make the appropriate field decisions regarding how to proceed with the survey.

• Gather all necessary field information needed to properly conduct the survey in the most time efficient manner

• Perform calculations and maintain field records essential to surveys. 

• Ensure that assigned survey truck is properly maintained. 

• Maintain and inventory all assigned equipment. 

• Respond appropriately to employee performance issues of assigned survey crew members. 

• Communicate with management to maximize efforts and man-hours. 

Requirements: 

• 5+ years’ experience in Boundary, Topographic and Utility field surveys 

• 3+ years’ experience in Construction Stakeout 

• Proficiency in use of GPS, Robotic and Conventional Survey Instrumentation 

• Proficiency in use of Trimble Data Collection 

• Proficiency in Note Preparation 

• Valid NJ Driver’s License 

Physical Job Qualifications: 

• Field duties including but not limited to investigations in the field by foot 

• Ability to carry equipment, as much as 30 lbs. unassisted 

• Ability to push or pull items, bend at the knee, and reach above the head
