Medical Insurance Clerk

Job Summary:
This role is primarily responsible for managing and processing accounts receivable (A/R) transactions related to insurance claims and payments. This role involves verifying the accuracy of billing, reconciling accounts, and ensuring timely collections of outstanding balances.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Billing and Invoicing: Generate and issue invoices for insurance claims, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and insurance regulations.
- Payment Processing: Process incoming payments, apply them to the appropriate accounts, and maintain accurate records of transactions.
- Claims Management: Review and follow up on unpaid or denied claims, working closely with insurance providers to resolve discrepancies.
- Account Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of accounts receivable balances to ensure accuracy and timely reporting.
- Customer Communication: Communicate with clients, insurance companies, and internal departments regarding billing inquiries, payment status, and account discrepancies.
- Reporting: Prepare reports on accounts receivable aging, outstanding claims, and payment trends for management review.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and company policies related to billing and collections.
- Data Entry: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the accounting system, ensuring all transactions are entered timely and correctly.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of previous experience in accounts receivable within the health insurance industry.
- Strong understanding of insurance billing processes and terminology
- Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task
- Proficiency in EMR applications
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge or certification in CPT and ICD-10 coding.
- Familiarity with Veridymn PM & EHR (formerly AllScripts).
- Experience with the Medicare SPOT system.
