JOB SUMMARY

This position is an advanced practitioner of substance use treatment services in a Permanent Supportive Housing program that offers both Housing First and Sober Living options. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC) will serve Park Center members on a recovery-oriented, housing-focused intensive case management (ICM) team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Value cultural competence and diversity
    1. Collaborate with staff, members, and the community to gain the perspectives of others having diverse opinions, abilities, values, beliefs, perspectives, and ethnic or cultural backgrounds.
    2. Take deliberate steps to increase their own cultural competency by attending trainings, events, discussions, workshops, etc.
  1. Member Support Duties:
    1. Engage members in their homes and in office locations utilizing a trauma lens and cultural humility to quickly establish trust and build rapport.
    2. Assess member strengths, needs, abilities, preferences, and barriers to develop a plan to address substance use in a manner consistent with the member’s stage of change, risk factors, etc.
    3. Complete evidence-based assessment tools (e.g., ASAM Criteria) to supplement assessment data and determine the most clinically appropriate recommendations.
    4. Using a strengths-based, person-centered approach, provide recovery-oriented substance use support including individual and group substance use counseling, referrals to residential treatment programs, etc.
    5. Partner with members to help them achieve goals that are specifically centered around substance use and their definition of recovery.
    6. Support PSH members by offering holistic recovery support that addresses wellness of both mind and body.
    7. Plan and lead recovery-focused groups (e.g., support, educational, etc.) for the PSH program.
    8. Assist PSH members with developing interpersonal skills to connect with members of the community and expand their natural support system.
    9. Complete, maintain, and review documentation for agency and funding requirements within all designated timeframes.
    10. Develop and provide resources to members based around recovery services.
  1. Public/Staff Relations:
    1. Communicate with internal and external partners to coordinate care and advocate for member needs.
    2. Communicate regularly with the Permanent Supportive Housing team to meet resident needs.
    3. Build rapport and connections with community service providers to provide wrap around support and care to members in recovery.
    4. Develop effective working relationships with human services organizations.
  1. Program Development:
    1. Assist with developing the recovery housing program including the service model, procedures, documents, program goals, and performance metrics.
    2. Research and recommend recovery housing training, grants, and other resources for program development.
    3. Create and update departmental procedures in collaboration with PSH leadership.
    4. Assist with planning and organizing recovery group meetings at PSH locations.
    5. Coordinate and meet with other programs and industry leaders for research and development.
  1. Other duties as member of the Permanent Supportive Housing team:
    1. Attend all staff and supervision meetings.
    2. Assist with program events and outings.
    3. Participate in on-call rotation.
    4. Maintain schedule flexibility in the event of after-hours responsibilities.
    5. Maintain good attendance and inform supervisor in advance of time off.
    6. Complete Relias Learning courses by deadline.
    7. Follow all Personnel Policies and uphold Park Center’s Code of Ethics.
    8. Perform all other duties assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience working in a human services field, mental health, substance use, and or supportive housing preferred.
  • Obtained LADAC license or be eligible to obtain license within 90 days of hire.
  • Able to demonstrate strong recovery support competencies and ethical behaviors.
  • Must have proven written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field required.
  • Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to show proof of personal automobile insurance.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Modified remote work available for this position, shared workstation in office.
  • Able to operate with many distractions.
  • Routine office environment.
  • Able/willing to use vehicle to transport members.
  • Able/willing to operate a large van/bus to transport clients.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • The ability to navigate stairs and uneven terrain.
  • The ability to operate with many distractions.
  • The ability to use vehicle to travel to different sites.
