On Line Design, Inc. is assisting our customer with recruiting for a full-time, direct hire Field Service Controls Technician, with expertise in PLCs, circuits, and schematics. In this role, you will support both customers needs at their plants (through on site and / or remote technical assistance) and the validation of the internal projects. This position requires a minimum of 50% travel.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assure technical assistance on equipment to customers is done (both on site and from remote)
  • Be the interface and representative when on customers plant
  • Validate the implementation of electrical and pneumatic devices to customer acceptance standards
  • Calibration testing and troubleshoot controls circuits, components, and instruments
  • Gather the customers needs and support them in terms of upgrading/retrofitting/refurbishing of existing equipment
  • Troubleshoot process control issues, developing control solutions to improve outcomes
  • Assist in the development of scope and strategy for automation projects
  • Maintain configuration control of current PLC source code
  • Develop technical documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Report internally precious technical information coming from customers to the technical community
  • In coordination with the Customer Service team, foster the company's spare parts sale when on customer plant

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of controls engineering experience
  • Experience validating industrial machinery to customer acceptance standards
  • Ability to program industrial machinery in at least one IEC 61131-3 programming language. Ladder or Structured Text preferred
  • Familiarity with Rockwell industrial automation systems is a must (familiarity with Siemens, Fanuc, ABB technology will be a plus)
  • Familiarity with servo and A/C motor systems including programming, troubleshooting, and tuning
  • Ability to read electrical and pneumatic schematics and develop a program from scratch or make modifications to an existing program in line with schematic revisions
  • Experience with PID control
  • Ability to find root cause of a problem applying methodology
  • Capable communicator who works well in a team environment customer oriented
  • Clear technical writing skills for machine operating instructions and controls documentation
