SOAR - Seeing Our Adolescents Rise Bilingual Mental Health Clinician

Aurora, CO·Denver, CO·Part time

To provide trauma-informed mental health counseling utilizing an Adventure Therapy modality to adolescents, between 10 and 18 years of age, involved with mental health, public school, and juvenile justice systems. To establish and maintain strong working relationships with families, agencies, and other key figures through regular communication in the form of documentation, direct and timely communication, and family coaching.

Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing adventure therapy and therapeutic adventure services to clients in the RISE Therapy program and CORE services, including individual, group, and family contexts.
  • Conducting mental health assessments.
  • Updating SOAR team members and RISE team during SOAR staffings, and updating the client’s professional team on status/progress.
  • Attending assigned client’s professional team meetings.
  • Supporting SOAR CORE experiential activities, utilizing these opportunities to observe and meet youth.
  • Developing and conducting training for SOAR staff members related to mental health and responding to various client needs.
  • Referring clients to appropriate care when necessary.
  • Managing crisis situations in a trauma-informed manner, taking appropriate initiative to manage crises, including direct client intervention and filing incident reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining licensing and professional credentials by participating in required continuing education offerings and through supervisory oversight.
  • Preparing and submitting all required reports and documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, behavior management programs, and discharge planning in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Proficiency with computer programs necessary to complete the above tasks.

Other Functions

  • Maintain open and consistent communication with the Executive Director and members of the client’s professional team.
  • Travel as needed for in-person sessions in client homes or the community.
  • Initiate and maintain effective communication with SOAR clients, families, Engagement Coaches, Program Director, and other staff members.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Master’s Degree and corresponding licensure as LSW, SWC, LCSW, LMFT, LCMFT, or similar in Colorado. For provisionally licensed candidates, one year of supervised post-master’s practice is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the mental health field and/or substance misuse preferred.
  • Experience in adventure education, experiential education, or therapy field, strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with youth and/or families preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Desire and dedication to high-quality client care.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Task-oriented, motivated, and a self-starter.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Have a personal vehicle in good operating condition for use during work.
  • Valid Colorado motor vehicle license/proof of adequate motor vehicle insurance.
  • Meet driving requirements - no suspensions/less than three (3) tickets in the past three (3) years.
  • CPR/FA certification preferred, but not initially required.

Working Conditions

Special working conditions cover a range of circumstances from regular evening (approximately 3 evenings per week) and weekend (average 2 weekend days per month) work, working with challenging clients, and driving around the Denver Metro area as needed for client caseload. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively manage their own schedule and complete all job responsibilities in a timely manner.

Physical Requirements

Required to sit or stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift heavy objects. Must be able to drive for periods of time that may exceed 1 hour, hike 3-5 miles on uneven terrain, and obtain First Aid and CPR Certification to provide emergency response. Daily use of various office equipment, bending, stooping, climbing up stairs, and lifting up to 25 lbs. required to complete daily tasks. Must be able to perform duties while outdoors and exposed to various weather conditions - hot and cold. Must be able to lift and carry a backpack (up to 50 lbs.) for up to 3 days on required backpacking expeditions, swim, and physically respond to coordinate rescues when needed in course areas.
