Hiring Range: Salary is Negotiable and Commensurate with Experience for Dispatchers. Dispatcher Trainees will start at $39,247.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Some knowledge of federal and State regulations governing the use of radio transmission and exchange of emergency communications; of the geographical area and locations of safety and emergency personnel and equipment within the area; of the rules and regulations pertaining to emergency communications to include radio codes; and of communications equipment and procedures.
  • Skill in operating computers and keyboarding to include Microsoft software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure, high-volume environment and exercise sound judgment under stress; to multitask; to handle complaints/compliments and direct them to appropriate First Sergeant or Sergeant; and to work holidays and weekends.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be eligible to become VCIN certified which requires either U.S. citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.

Additional Considerations

  • Prior experience as a police/emergency service dispatcher is preferred.
