POSITION

Chief Development Officer

OUR ORGANIZATION

NC MedAssist is a state-wide charitable pharmacy program. With the mission to dispense opportunities through improved health, NC MedAssist is located in Charlotte, North Carolina and has been in operation since 1997. During the last fiscal year, NC MedAssist dispensed more than $60 million worth of free medication (OTC and prescription medications) to over 60,000 low-income North Carolinians. Annually, NC MedAssist’s budget is raised through private funding and the efforts of the development department.

Reports/Relationships

The Chief Development Officer is an Executive Team Member and reports directly to the CEO of NC MedAssist. The Chief Development Officer will provide leadership, direction, and guidance for the overall development function within the organization including management of the following direct reports: Senior Development Director of Corporate Relations, Data/Volunteer Manager, Director of Marketing & Communications, and the Director of Foundations and Government Relations.

Basic Functions

The primary responsibility of the Chief Development Officer is to serve as the leading organizational expert and champion for charitable giving to the mission. Responsibilities include:

Managing the operation of the Development department.

Providing executive leadership to the advancement staff; clearly defining and clarifying roles and managing/motivating individuals into a cohesive team.

Directly managing the Individual Giving areas of Development, including expanding the annual giving program, annual appeals, and event individual-based giving.

Managing all aspects of the major donor program (strategy, identification, request, stewardship, and relationship management).

Strategizing and providing guidance on grant-writing and reporting.

Developing strategies for a targeted prospect management plan for current donors, foundations, businesses, and potential donors.

Establishing annual fundraising goals and objectives in collaboration with the CEO and staff.

Assisting the Director of Marketing & Communications to provide leadership on organizational marketing and communications needs.

Working closely with the CEO to lead the Development Committee of the Board in coordinating fundraising efforts.

Planning and implementing future campaigns.

Consulting with the CEO and Director of Finance to ensure proper recording and acknowledgment of gifts and pledges.

Preparing and submitting annual budget recommendations to the CEO.

Sharing information about projects and programs among various constituencies and facilitating collaborative efforts.

Participating quarterly in the Mobile Free Pharmacy program as an event lead.

Requirements

Attending to other responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.

Minimum of five years of success in professional fundraising and development, preferably in a healthcare-related environment.

Proven management experience, specifically in overseeing and managing direct reports.

Willingness to travel across the State of NC (or beyond) up to 25% of the time.

Strong proficiency in major donor identification and cultivation.

Proficiency in donor database software Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office, and internet research.

Demonstrated successful track record in developing and executing fundraising campaigns.

Strong work ethic with a professional image and ethical standards.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, persuasion, and negotiation skills.

Strong organizational, prioritization, and project management skills.

Extensive professional proposal writing experience.

Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.

Strong sales skills.

Self-starter; highly motivated.

Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

Valid NC Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Compensation

Salary will be determined based on the annual budget.
