This rewarding position works closely with patients to navigate insurance benefits and assures that financial steps are in place prior to organ transplant. As a transplant financial coordinator, you belong on a multidisciplinary team tasked with ensuring patients have all the needed financial resources and knowledge to succeed with transplant.

Main Components
  • Insurance verification and monitoring. Involves contacting insurance companies to obtain benefits and documenting within patient charts. In some instances, authorization for services may need to be requested from the insurance company. Updating and continual verification of insurance status throughout the transplant process is also necessary.
  • Financial Counseling. As a financial coordinator, you will meet with individual patients to discuss benefits obtained from the insurance providers. This is your opportunity to develop a relationship with patients and become their advocate for financial support. Providing them with documents and resources are also part of the financial interview. Throughout the organ transplant process, you will meet and be available to patients as needed.
  • Behind the scenes financial documentation. Another component of this position is the tracking of financial costs related to transplant evaluation and being a point of contact for hospital and transplant team members to verify eligible transplant expenses.

On the job training is provided to assure that you thrive in this position. Transplant is a rewarding, interesting field and as a financial coordinator, you are an integral part of the team.

Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED. Current knowledge regarding insurance systems and benefits is beneficial.
